About this deal

Overall, The Princess Saves Herself in this One is a beautiful collection of poems that I would love to read over and over again. I loved the writing style and every little thing about this book! For me, this book was definitely an ideal start to reading poetry. I'm looking forward to reading more by this author. Overall, the princess saves herself in this one is a powerful read that even non-fans of poetry will enjoy. Definitely a must read for teenage girls!

A poetry collection divided into four different parts: the princess, the damsel, the queen, & you. the princess, the damsel, & the queen piece together the life of the author in three stages, while you serves as a note to the reader & all of humankind. Explores life & all of its love, loss, grief, healing, empowerment, & inspirations. the princess saves herself in this one reviewThere will be a lot of critics of this work - people saying that 'hitting the enter key' doesn't make poetry, that the author is pretentious, that she is self-absorbed. To all of that I say: good. Let girls be pretentious. Let girls write poetry in a way that suits them the best. Allow girls to be obsessed with their own personal growth. On a more technical level, I loved the creativity of the poetry, not only in the words but in the actual layout of the poems. I've only read classic poetry as a kid and have never seen anything like it so I don't know if it's common but it was well done, I feel it enhanced the poems instead of detracting from the words. I loved the concept behind this collection and the meaning conveyed by Shraya’s poetry though I feel execution let this book down a little. I wasn’t enamoured with the form or layout but it’s a very thought-provoking and important read that I would recommend.

a b c Miller, E. Ce (6 March 2018). " The Witch Doesn't Burn In This One Poet Amanda Lovelace Wants Sexual Assault Survivors To Know They Have Permission To Be Openly Angry". Bustle . Retrieved 10 December 2018. The influence of Rupi Kaur can be seen all over Amanda Lovelace’s debut poetry book the princess saves herself in this one. The use of epigrammatic form devolves often into cliché and the terrible use of enjambment are just the beginning of the similarities. Lovelace and Kaur also walk similar poetic trails: writing on the themes of sexual assault, menstruation, trauma, self-harm, and more. The section I liked the most are II the damsel and III the queen. I connected most to those two sections. The section I slightly disliked the last one, IV you. I feel a bit disconnected from it. It was quite different from the previous ones and even a bit political. I hate when art suggests politics so strongly. It loses its beauty. This burst of creative output in the world of popular poetry reminds me of the Twilight phenomenon that pushed the young adult genre onto many a reading list many years ago.The fact that Rupi Kaur has taken up the reins from Angelou in a modern age and is still shouting about these issues today tells a sad story about the “progress” that has been made over the past few decades. She was writing inspirational poetry long before Rupi Kaur was even born and Angelou passed away the year that milk and honey was published. His Hideous Heart: Thirteen of Edgar Allan Poe's Most Unsettling Tales Reimagined (2019), edited by Dahlia Adler the princess saves herself in this one is the most similar to milk and honey as it draws on her work in terms of style, content and even cover art. It’s even published by the same people! Something to note though is thatthe target audience of this book seems to be considerably younger than that of Rupi Kaur, which does change the tone. Facetiousness aside, Lovelace’s poetry book asks an essential question. How much has the fairy tale princess and the fairy tale itself shaped the female psyche? Lovelace’s speaker is obsessed with books and has transformed her life into a story. Anyone with even a mildly literary imagination can fall victim to this.
