About this deal

If you are unable to find the source of the leak or are not sure how to repair it, please fill out our Online Claim Form. Overall I am happy with the pad so far, and assuming it will last like my other pad, I would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade or get a new pad. Your pad is made of 2 different materials. We have provided 2 patch types to use depending on the material. The valve side is made of a stretch material and the bottom is made of a non-stretch material . It is essential to use the correct patch and attachment method for the material. I was initially rather nervous of putting the mat directly on rough or uneven ground as it certainly doesn’t feel quite as robust as it is. However, over the last couple of years I have become less precious about this. And the good news is that the double rip-stop nylon and aviation grade TPU has lived up to it’s promisese. The bottom of my mat has held strong, despite its abuse.

What I like: A good option for side sleepers, hardly makes a noise, materials feel pretty durable, very warm This pad proved to be very warm staying true to its advertised R value of 5. I used it in temperatures of 38°F. I am a cold sleeper though so I definitely need a high R value pad. Big Agnes claim to have improved the tear strength and durability of the SLX by a huge 25% (compared with the earlier Q-Core SL). They have upped their game by using a new double rip-stop nylon and aviation grade TPU (thermoplastic polyurethane) that is super lightweight and mega durable. I’ve yet to have any reason to doubt the durability of the SLX, but it is so lightweight that I am still a little cautious about where and how I use it. Big Agnes Q-Core SLX sleeping pad review Compared with the earlier version of the Q-Core, the valves are dramatically improved, and I much prefer them to the XLite as well. There are two separate valves for inflation and deflation. The inflation valve is a one-way valve which means you can take breaks whilst you are blowing the pad up, without the risk of letting any air out! You can also tweak the air levels in the pad by letting small amounts of air out of the inflation valve using the red micro air pressure button. MAterials Here you can see the quilted baffles in the Q-Core compared to the vertical baffles in the Insulated Air Core.

A wide range of sizes is also available for the Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pad. It offers both mummy and rectangular shapes, plus short, wide, and long versions. One of these configurations is sure to be perfect for you, whether you want to cut ounces by going with the short mummy version, or you are big and tall and need a long, wide version. Insert the new valve flange through the deflator valve with the stem oriented up towards the inflator valve.

If the weight and bulk savings weren’t enough, the double bag is also darn comfortable. Its integrated pad sleeve fits our Q-Core SLX insulated double-wide sleeping pad perfectly and keeps it from sliding off. And its two cinchable hoods retain warmth without being constricting. My initial impressions were two-fold. Firstly, the Q-Core SLX Sleeping Pad felt like it took an age to blow up — or at least, 25 full and ponderous breaths. And secondly, I slept incredibly well once I’d done so, no matter how lumpy and uneven the terrain. As a welcome sie perk, the shoulder injury that occasionally plagues my nights when I sleep on my side rarely bothered me. This tip is sure to be controversial but take it or leave it. I believe a quilt is more comfortable for side sleepers due to your ability to maneuver around inside all while keeping your quilt in place. For this to be true however, you need to have a quilt with a sleeping pad attachment system. Big Agnes are a colourful bunch who make colourful gear. They started 18 years ago and developed over time to become one of the most respected outdoor equipment companies in the world. After being told by industry heavyweights that the market was too saturated, they decided to come up with something truly unique. The Big Agnes System is an original concept that involves affixing a sleeping pad and bag in a simple and highly comfortable manner. Once this concept took shape, everything evolved from there.Unlike the Q-Core SLX, this pad has a higher R-value of 4.5 so it will help keep you warmer on colder nights. The Insulated Air Core Ultra Sleeping pad weighs 22oz, which isn’t very light, but not too heavy either. For such a great price, the extra warmth is worth a few more ounces. Another plus is that the Insulated Q-Core SLX Sleeping Pad comes in wide sizes, which can be advantageous to side sleepers who tend to turn from one side to the other during the night, helping you stay on your pad without the fear of rolling off onto the cold ground. Rectangular pads offer more space, but they will be heavier in general. The couple of extra ounces may be worth it to you though. Sleeping Pad R-Value

The Insulated Q-Core SLX Sleeping Pad is one of several great sleeping pads offered by Big Agnes, which includes the regular Q-Core SLX Sleeping Pad. This insulated version outshines its sibling though because the R-Value is higher and fits well into the range of 3-season sleeping pads. Plus, it only weighs two more ounces for a regular-sized pad. Why this sleeping pad is great for side sleepers I previously had an Insulated Air Core Pad (Big A) and it had leaking issues with the valve. I sent it off to Big Agnes to be replaced and the new one also had a leaky valve, so I asked them to send me the Q-Core this time. Of course I paid the difference in price, but it was well worth it! I own the 27 oz 20" x 72" x 3.5" size. I am 5’4” and it is plenty long enough for me. If you are concerned about its weight, Big A does make a lighter version, the Q-Core SL. It is 10 ounces lighter, but substantially less comfortable. It is still comfortable, don't get me wrong, but the Q-Core's comfort is in another league. I personally am very happy with my decision to carry the heavier and more comfortable Q-core. Smooth entire patch to eliminate air bubbles. Press firmly to help adhesive hold. Let cure 5 minutes. We are so serious about comfort, dependability and guaranteed quality that we invested in a special machine to test all R-values in house during development, in addition to a final third-party testing for a proven R-Value that you’ll find labeled on each of our pads. If you really want to geek out with us, you might be impressed to know that our very own in-house pad wizard was on the board that helped establish the R-Value rating system of ASTM F3340-18. Not only are we compliant, we are confident in the performance of these pads for a variety of use throughout the seasons. Photo by: Devon BaletNow for the bad news... When you move on the pad—roll over, turn—it makes a rather loud noise. If alone, this is no problem. When camping with others it can be so loud it disrupts their sleep (but so does my snoring—so if they can deal with that, Q Core sqeaks are nothing!). If you find a small puncture (identified by a single steady stream of bubbles) mark it with a piece of chalk or masking tape. Let the pad dry and then deflate it. In terms of overall shape, the Q-Core SLX features outer chambers that are raised a touch above the central ones, to subtly help cup you within the pad. Together with vertical and lateral pad construction, along with its quilted finish, it’s a design that I found provides both support and comfort, once the best air pressure is found. If you’re a side sleeper, I expect you’ll get on well with it, as it’s unlikely your hips will get cold or sore. And I can report that unlike some mattresses, sleeping on the Q-Core won’t keep your camping neighbours awake – there’s no squeaking or crumpling sounds to be heard. Within, the Q-Core SLX boasts Antimicrobial treatment inside the pad prevents to prevent microorganism growth from all that laboured breath. Deflate pad and clean the surface around the puncture. Pad should be warm and dry before affixing the patch. Disclaimer: Cool of the Wild received this product free in return for an honest review.
