About this deal

Snake is all about avoiding three putts. If you are the last person in the group to commit a three putt during the round you’re in trouble.

For over five years, PuttOUT has been working relentlessly to make golfers better at putting. They started with their amazing Pressure Putter Trainer [review HERE] and went on to make the best versions of training necessities like putting mats and putting mirrors [review HERE]. For 2022 they’ve released another new invention, the Devil Ball. The team score is the total of the score from the coloured ball plus the lowest score of the other 3 balls played. Fun golf formats: Split Sixes However, if one person won the hole and the other two halved then it would be 4-1-1. If two players halve but beat the third then it is 3-3-0. You get the picture. The Ghost pars every hole so the best way to play this format is to have the highest handicapper play with the Ghost. Fun golf formats: Coloured Ball I feel like I’m not a good putter for my handicap, and Arccos agrees. I miss far too many short putts. PuttOUT Devil Ball: A devilish twist on a putter face-angle training aid. YOUR PUTTOUT DEVIL BALL REVIEWER The PuttOUT Devil Ball has one purpose – helping you dial in your putter’s face angle at impact. Tough but fun to use. Excellent for adding difficulty to indoor practice. I had a small meltdown with my putting confidence mid season this year, you can read that thread here.

Let’s put some numbers to it. At three feet, you can comfortably make a putt with a normal ball with a face angle anywhere from two degrees open to two degrees closed. You can even lip in a putt with a face that’s up to five degrees from square. The Devil Ball, however, requires a face angle of one degree open or closed to comfortably make a three-footer. If your face angle hits two degrees open or closed, you’re likely to lip the putt out. The Devil Ball makes putting twice as hard as normal. I wish I could’ve done more outdoor testing, but most of the mountain west got a lot of snow this winter. As of now, the devil ball will not replace my PuttOut gate as my pre-round warm-up: this device is too predicated on a completely flat putt. I posted some videos of this from my Vegas trip. Indoors, where you can control the variables is where the devil ball shines. If you struggle with putts inside of 8 feet, I can virtually assure you this will help you improve. And if you live somewhere where you can’t play year round, this device is great to practice with all winter long. The coloured ball rotates among the team members on each hole: A plays it on hole 1, B plays it on hole 2 etc.The devil ball does many things well and its Pros list is larger than the cons. To highlight some key areas of success: I will be using my Putt Out medium putting mat, premium pressure putt trainer, my trusty Bettinardi Inovai Wizard 8.0 putter & Bettinardi Inovai 6.5 tour prototype, and Titleist ProV1x for this heads-up match with the Devil Ball. When it comes to putting, my miss is usually a push. I believe that it’s due to the fact that the face is open at impact and I don’t have enough to hang on my putter. So to test my hypothesis, I will be using two putters, one with 1/8 toe hang (8.0) vs one with 1/4 toe hang (6.5). I will conduct my testing by using the different putting drills offered by Putt Out. These drills will be conducted indoors as well as outdoor putting green. I excited to report my findings to the MGS fam and hopefully, along the way, my putting will improve, even if it’s just slightly HAHAHA!
