The Honor 90 Lite’s piddly 5MP ultrawide isn’t a strong performer either, offering a washed-out approximation of the main sensor’s palette, with noticeably poor detail as you move out towards the edges of the frame. It also struggles with overexposure, blowing out highlights on a moderately sunny day. The final sensor in this nominal trio is a 2MP macro camera. Making a camera that’s supposed to highlight close-up detail with such a low resolution is rather counter-intuitive. Sure enough, this sensor struggles with detail, contrast and exposure, and as such is a total waste of time. Is this new camera set-up an improvement over the Honor 70 before it? Without being able to shoot with the two side-by-side, it’s impossible to say for sure, but I would suggest not. Given the choice, I would rather Honor had kept its hardware exactly the same and simply added OIS. Ultimately, it’s a solid setup that doesn’t disappoint, but it also doesn’t quite match the well-rounded capabilities of the Pixel 7a and the Galaxy A54 5G. The difference between the Honor 90’s display and those used on comparable mid-rangers, though, is its eye-friendliness. Flagship features without the price tag
By default, the Honor 90's main camera takes photos at 12.5MP, just like the Pixel 7a. Unlike the Pixel, you can shoot at the sensor's full resolution on the Honor. This comparison uses the default resolution for both phones. The Honor 90 Lite runs on Android 13, but with a custom Magic UI 7.1 slathered on top. As with previous Honor phones, this doesn’t seem to offer the optimal Android experience. It’s a cluttered, clumsy UI with needless embellishments like super-sized folders and a split notification pane. The one thing that belittles the viewing experience on the Honor 90 is the fact that there’s only one set of speakers at the bottom of the phone, and while they do sound better than other phones I’ve used that follow a similar design choice, they pale in comparison to any handsets with dual-firing speakers. Your best bet is to bring some headphones into the mix. Despite the lofty expectations set by its name, MagicOS pales in comparison to the variants of Android you’ll find on the likes of Pixel or Samsung. When you boot it up, there’s a considerable amount of bloatware, not just from Honor itself but a bunch of different companies. To make matters worse, there’s just an obtuse design language that sits behind the operating system as a whole.

I don’t know why Honor thinks that two large unseemly circles make for a stylish set of camera modules, but to my eyes, it just looks like a strange use of the available space.
