About this deal

In Cinebench R23, there’s a 9% improvement in the multi-core performance, and a 3% improvement in single-core performance over the Core i9-13900K. There I said it! … 3% improvement in single-core performance LOL! The Core i9-14900K has 8 Performance-cores, 16 Efficient-cores and a total of 32 threads with a massive 36MB of Intel Smart Cache. It sounds impressive, but with only 8 Performance-cores, it seems a little under-powered to be honest. I was expecting at least 10 or 12 even 16 Performance-cores. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test. My Ryzen 5950X result was almost identical to the one I got with the same chip inside the Origin Neuron. That said, the average result from the 3D Mark leaderboards is slightly higher. This is likely a memory issue; even with XMP enabled, the Ryzen 9 5950X produced subpar results. You’d need to tighten timings to achieve a higher score, which is a problem the Core i9-12900K doesn’t have. All BIOS settings were at default, with XMP profiles enabled. Graphics resolution set to 1920×1080 (HD 1080p) or default where ever possible. High or Ultra settings enabled.

With that said, the Core i9-14900K is in my opinion a really tough sell. There isn’t a lot of real differences between it and the previous gen the Core i9-13900K. It has the same number of cores, the same TDP, the same amount of cache … the only thing it has going for it, is the increased core speed. And I’ve said this already, it’s really just a “refresh” of the previous gen Raptor Lake, but the ability to support higher memory speeds of up to DDR5-8266. Intel even provided several custom "workflow" benchmarks to its reviewer pool this time, designed to simulate those scenarios where the impact of its hybrid-architecture approach (and Thread Director's effect) would be most apparent. See http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/architecture-and-technology/hyper-threading/hyper-threading-technology.html?wapkw=hyper+threading for more information including details on which processors support Intel® HT Technology. That scheduler, then, is a key player, especially when the CPU's resources are much in demand. (And that demand is the point of buying any high-end CPU!) So, speaking of schedulers...meet Windows Thread Director, the ostensible Spielberg of the whole scheme. Windows Thread Director Counter-Strike: Global Offensive has no surprises for us. The 7900X was a whisker faster than the 7950X with 518 fps and that made it 15% faster than the 12900K, a convincing win there. 12 Game Average Performance Today, we’ll be comparing Intel’s flagship processor the Core i9-14900K against the older Core i9-12900KF and the previous gen, the Core i9-13900K. CONCLUSION : Intel have adequate number of cores most program (including serious games) can use at max but AMD has so many cores that a program rarely or doesn't use all of the cores ( unless you are doing 3D rendering and blending stuff which would benefit from more cores ) and we know that Intel has far better cores than AMD , so for me the Winner is Intel . FINALLY IF YOU'RE READY TO SPEND SOME MONEY ON A GREAT COOLING SYSTEM FOR YOUR PC THEN THIS CPU IS A BIG YES FOR ME ! Yes. Right now, there isn’t anything that performs as well as the Core i9-12900K. That said, it consumes a lot of power, so make sure to buy a beefy power supply and cooler alongside it.

Time for the value analysis and as we found with the 7950X, the 7900X is overkill for gamers and largely a waste of money if all you plan on doing is gaming.

Instruction Set

We've seen that in terms of power consumption Zen 4 isn't too impressive, typically worse off than Zen 3 when it comes to performance per watt, at least based on our recorded Blender data. The 7900X pushed total system usage to the same level as the 10900K and slightly higher than the 12700K. As I said before in our previous comparison, Intel’s 14th Gen Core processors (Raptor Lake-S) isn’t really a “Next-Gen” but rather a “Refresh” of their previous 13th Gen Raptor Lake processors.
