About this deal

I dalje najdraži likovi.

I'm just getting started with the laundry list of things that frustrate me to no end about Olympos, but by now I'm getting tired of typing and you may well be tired of reading, so I'll keep the rest brief. Major conflicts peter out to nothing. Setebos, who seems to be the ultimate evil of this story, flees and vanishes without a fight. In the final showdown between Caliban and Daemen, nothing more climactic happens than Caliban uttering a few more of his inscrutable verses. Even Zeus' demise felt meaningless and disappointing. Childishly gross as well, honestly. And finally, most of the major mysteries put forth by Ilium never get solved. I still don't know how or why the Posts of Earth became the Gods of Olympos. I still don't know how Odysseus ended up on Earth. An explanation is put forth as to where the alternate ancient Greek Earth came from, but I found it extremely weak and unsatisfying. An afterthought. Dan Simmons throwing up his hands and admitting that he doesn't know. If you’re after one of the best-selling Simmons books, then this one will have to do. Carrion Comfort won the Bram Stoker and the Locus Poll Award for Best Horror Novel. Knowing this, be ready to experience a story that will leave your jaw open for days. The Secret Society On his quest to retrieve the manuscript, Bobby gets involved with a terrible cult associated with the goddess Kali. He then meets M. Das himself, who was thought to be dead for many years until now. Although completely deformed by disease and in suffering, Das still lives. Bobby realizes that he must immediately get away from this place, and that’s when things start going south. Greatest of Tragedies A billionaire who owns a glamorous Hawaiian resort wants to sell, as lately, someone or something is kidnapping and murdering many of his guests. Eleanor Perry is the character who will attempt to get to the bottom of this and will either succeed or end up the same as the other guests. The suspense alone is enough to make this one of the best Dan Simmons novels out there. A Winter HauntingNow, having said all that, Ilium and Olympos were fascinating, original, creative, challenging, and, in the end, rewarding. I put a lot of time, and expended a good deal of mental energy, into reading and understanding these books and I’m glad I did. The author’s central idea around which he crafted the Ilium Universe is intriguing, to say the least, and presents some awesome opportunities for original world-building.

It's a surreal but memorable story of a burned-out, alcoholic teacher, who's emotionally suffering from the death of his son and his subsequent divorce. In an all-too-real dreamworld(?), he's being hunted down by Kelly Dahl, a former student whom, he believes, he failed to help - he didn't see the clues that she came from an abusive home situation. Through violence and anger, is there a hope of redemption? It is instead an exploration of humanity, people, and the choices they make for good or ill. There are monsters and heroes, both human and otherwise. The petty and significant jealousies of the gods as they follow the paths of Homer’s tale. The lies told to the “true” humans to keep them docile. The mystery of the missing post-humans. How are the Gods on Olympus Mons on a future Mars, yet shuttling to a Troy, possibly in our past. The Moravec expedition to figure out what is going on on Mars, that takes a disastrous turn as they encounter the Greek Gods. Future true humans discovering that life and death matter, as do real skills, and that they should not trust their mechanical servitors that provide all. Curiosity, courage, fear, all play a part. As does horror and desperation - for Caliban is a true and deadly monster.

Altre piccole cose che mi hanno dato fastidio: non ho ben capito se l'Olimpo si trova su Terra o Marte... E in che tempo... Dan's first published story appeared on Feb. 15, 1982, the day his daughter, Jane Kathryn, was born. He's always attributed that coincidence to "helping in keeping things in perspective when it comes to the relative importance of writing and life." What follows is a definition of terms that are either used within Ilium or are related to its science, technology and fictional history:
