About this deal

And, to hype up the tension, the major villain gets narration time as well. I really wanted some big-time justice there and Karen Rose delivered. The best part of this story is the character development. She perfected the bad guys with all of the creepiness and meanness that draws you into the depths of the story. The supporting characters are wonderful as well. With a range of depth and conviction, Rose grabs your interest throughout this massive book. As you can imagine, sparks fly when Sam and Kit cross paths. Sam is released after his encounter with Kit, but he goes home with both a newfound distaste for the SDPD and a resolve–not unlike Kit’s–to uncover the truth. Despite their differences, Kit and Sam repeatedly butt heads in their separate investigations, but they’re eventually forced to work together to find one of the deadliest serial killers the city has faced in a decade. Public prosecutor J.P. "Kaj" Cardozo has only lived in New Orleans for six months, and he's already working on a high-profile celebrity sexual assault case that's made headlines all over the country. But when his son becomes the target of a kidnapping attempt as a threat to Kaj, he is desperate to keep him safe and turns to a private investigative firm famous for their protection services. New York Times bestselling author Karen Rose, the popular international romantic-suspense author, was born as Karen Rose Hafer in 1964 in Baltimore, Maryland and grew up in a small town outside of Washington D.C. At the age of 17, she met her future husband, with whom she moved to Cincinnati, Ohio after both graduating from University of Maryland. Karen graduated with a degree in Chemical Engineering.

With its compelling and masterfully plotted storyline, this is an impressive beginning to a new series by Karen Rose, one of my top-favorite writers. In my humble opinion, romantic suspense doesn’t get any better than hers.

Success!

As I mentioned above, the author has broken down her larger series into several subgroups according to the locations in which they’re set. This entertaining romantic suspense title is the second in the New Orleans series and introduces us to more people in Broussard Investigations. I love this author's writing. Each book is like meeting up with old friends. I can't recommend it highly enough' This book was a trip! I am not sure how Rose keeps bringing fabulous stories that consistently offer a wonderful balance of suspense and romance. This one is a fabulous ride into the deep depths of the bayou and New Orleans.

This story is unlike any I have read in the past. Rose dives into a serial killer, his crimes, and his victims. She weaves emotions and deep connections between the characters into this story. You get all of the feels right along with the characters. The new ADA in town is here partly to start cleaning up the corrupt players on the force which is one of the reasons Broussard left the police. The stakes feel as high as they can get when there is an attempted kidnapping of the ADA's son, Elijah. The emotional angst of that possibility and the situation of other minors kept me in suspense. Not only is there a lot of action, but also many details as the criminals try to accomplish their goals. They want to force the ADA to let them get on with their criminal activities.Gabe Hebert saw the toll that working for the NOPD took on his dad and decided instead to make a name for himself as one of the best young chefs in the French Quarter. But when his father’s death is ruled a suicide after a deliberately botched investigation by his former captain, Gabe knows his dad stumbled onto a truth that someone wants silenced. J.P. “Kaj” Cardozo is the Assistant District Attorney for New Orleans. When his young son is nearly kidnapped, he hires Broussard Investigations to protect him. Kaj feels tormented that his job puts his son’s life in jeopardy. However, he cannot ignore his growing attraction to his son’s new female bodyguard. The investigation takes a darker, drastic turn when they learn there is more to both of his high-profile cases. Will Kaj have to step away from those cases to protect his son? Or will he power through to allow justice to be served?

The emotional side of the book is draining for me as is usual when I read this author’s books because she pulls you into the world so deeply. The victims are treated with dignity, but it is never pretty. The descriptions don’t get gratuitous, but are enough to feel the need for justice and really cheer on the team working to bring the fiend behind it down. Trigger warning to those who need to avoid mentions of abuse and killing of teenage girls and young women. Colton Driscoll is a compulsive liar. But there's one thing his psychologist Sam Reeves fears he is telling the truth about: murder. Concerned his patient has committed an awful crime and that the life of another girl could be under threat, Sam calls in an anonymous tip to the San Diego Police Department.

Karen Rose Book Releases 2023/2024

Val Sorensen is a Marine veteran and new to the Broussard team. She takes this job very seriously and soon finds herself more than a little in love with her charge and his hot father. She also finds herself in the middle of the reasons they are in danger and those reasons put everyone around them in danger. 3 1/2-Stars I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review as part of the book tour hosted by Headline Books. In New Orleans, instead of being centered around law enforcement, the stories seem to be characters who work for Broussard's private investigators. Broussard is an ex-cop in New Orleans and has friends on the force who also figure in the events.
