The Twi'lek majordomo and chief aide of the crime lord Jabba the Hutt, Bib is Jabba's closest associate, succeeding him as daimyo after his death before ultimately being killed himself by Boba Fett. Fortuna first appeared in Return of the Jedi (1983), the final entry in the original Star Wars trilogy. He also appeared briefly in the prequel trilogy film The Phantom Menace (1999) and in the second season of Disney+ series The Mandalorian (2020) and The Bad Batch (2021). The character has also appeared in other Star Wars media, including novels, comic books, video games, and radio dramas. Eye-Man. It's a name unfamiliar to even the most knowledgeable of Star Wars fans, but mention it to the small collective who are aware of Eye-Man's non-existence — and watch as their faces light up with a unique mixture of passion, weariness, and fear. Each account is as personal as the next, but every one of them is laced with a bitter sense of self-doubt, delivered with the cadence of a wizened storyteller telling a story for the thousandth time. Fortuna was designed by Phil Tippett, the visual effects artist who designed most of the creatures for Return of the Jedi. [62] [5] Early sketches of the character were drawn by concept artists Nilo Rodis-Jamero, [62] and Ralph McQuarrie. [63] Several of these sketches looked very different from Fortuna as he appeared in the final film. For example, one of Rodis-Jamero's sketches portrayed Fortuna with a thin, cylindrical head with gills along the sides, [62] and another with a flat-topped, triangularly-shaped head. [64] Those discarded sketches served as the basis for another Star Wars species called the Adnerem, which appear in the Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game and other later works. [65] Other variations by Rodis-Jamero presented Fortuna in blue, priest-like robes, occasionally holding a sceptre, with a lined, elongated face and narrow slits for eyes and nostrils. A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 202 dates the Second rescue of Grogu to "9 ASW4" or nine years after the events of Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope, including the Battle of Yavin. " A Certain Point of View" — Star Wars Insider 211 similarly dates the Assassination attempt on Boba Fett to 9 ABY. Since the epilogue of " Chapter 16: The Rescue" takes place between the second rescue of Grogu and the assassination attempt on Boba Fett, it can be concluded that the events of the epilogue, including Bib Fortuna's death, occurred in that same year. Soon after, Crimson Dawn sent invitations to many of the major crime lords in the galaxy, including Jabba. Revealing that they held Solo in their possession, they bid the invitees to travel to Jekara and witness the return of Crimson Dawn. Believing that Fett had cheated him and sold the smuggler to a competitor, Jabba placed a bounty on the hunter's head before departing for Jekara, leaving Fortuna to look over his palace. Unaware that the Hutt had left, Fett stormed through the castle's dusty gates, incinerating two Gamorrean guards and demanding that Fortuna give him answers. After explaining that his master was absent, Fortuna suggested that Fett leave, lest the retinue of thugs and mercenaries that made up Jabba's court turn their weapons on the hunter. Fett reminded the rabble, however, that many of their number would perish in a firefight against him, dying in the meager name of Bib Fortuna. With this in mind, no one fired a shot. [25]
