About this deal

please forgive those squiggly lines - i still haven't learned how to photograph off of a NOOK properly. the camera sees things invisible to the naked eye. This fun series is the perfect introduction to the world of Danny and Dino. The poop-filled adventure is written by bestselling author duo Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter!

The children had a lot of fun, even if there was a lot of talk about poo around the table! They enjoyed creating all kinds of different shapes and it reminded us all how much they loved playing with playdough too. Dougie Poynter has been obsessed with dinosaurs ever since visiting the Natural History Museum when he was about three. He is passionate about the natural world and a keen conservationist, working with charities such as WWF and Greenpeace to get harmful products banned and to clean up the planet. Imagine that you were given a real dinosaur as a Christmas gift. Write a story about what might happen to you. One Christmas Eve, Danny and Dino receive an exciting invitation to the North Pole. Soon, they're on a festive tour of Santa's workshop, meeting elves and reindeer along the way. There's just one problem - Dino is VERY hungry, and he's surrounded by treats! Will he hold off until Santa's special feast, or will his rumbly tummy ruin Christmas? I placed the dinosaur poo playdough on the table along with a mixture of colourful pom poms, sequins, pipe cleaners and gingerbread people and left it out as an invitation to play for my children when they got home from school.

Watch the official trailer for inspiration: Both my children love The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas. I have to admit that at the ages of 4 and 6 they still talk about poo a lot, so of course this series was going to appeal to them! I love the book too and it’s a great picture book and introduction to rhyme. In case you haven’t yet read it:

As well as his career as an author, by the age of 21, Tom had penned 10 UK number 1 singles and is the founding member of the band McFLY. The Brit Award-winning band has sold over 10 million records worldwide and Tom has also written songs for other artists including One Direction, Busted and 5SOS. Tom's books have been translated into thirty-nine languages, and to date he has sold over 5 million copies of his books in the UK alone. There was only one craft we could do with this wonderful book – make dinosaur poo playdough! I wanted to use a playdough recipe I’ve made before but I’d ran out of Cream of Tartar so used a slightly different recipe: Imagine one of the ‘festive dreams’ that the ‘snoozers’ may have been having while Santa flew above them high in the sky. Tom also writes the incredibly successful Who's in Your Book? picture book series and is one half of the author duo behind The Dinosaur that Pooped picture book series too, which has sold over 1.5 million copies.

and i MUST read the other books in the series, because one can never have too many books about poo.

One of the funniest, and one of the most irreverant Christmas books out there. . . If you like your humour to be slightly scatological in nature, then The Dinosaur That Pooped Christmas will have children in fits of laughter (and a large amount of adults too). . . Brilliant! Martine Horvath, EYE magazine Join Danny and Dino as they search for Easter eggs in this EGGcellent lift-the-flap story! With rip-roaring rhyme and laugh-out-loud silliness, the Dinosaur that Pooped series has sold over 1.5 million copies around the world! The Christmasaurus is currently being developed by The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey into an animated, feature-length movie with original songs written by Tom. christmas is restored, just with a little more poo than anticipated on the decorations and whatnot. A very, very silly book written by two members of pop band McFly, Tom Fletcher and Dougie Poynter. The story revolves around Danny – a very greedy boy who asks Father Christmas for too many presents. But Father Christmas decides enough is enough and instead gives Danny a huge Dinosaur which results in a very messy and smelly consequence. If your child liked Aliens in Underpants or The Story of the Little Mole, they will love this funny yet cautionary tale. Madeformums.com

I put all the ingredients into a saucepan and gently heated the concoction until it started to look like playdough. I removed it from the heat and let it cool down before lightly kneading it and adding some mixed spice. This gave it a slightly darker colour and also a lovely smell. I saw this book while looking at the books in Asda. I really wasn't sure what to expect for the story but I stood and it read while waiting for my mum and sister to finish shopping.

It was short, on the point, and much funnier than I had anticipated. I'm not usually one for poop or fart jokes, so I didn't expect much, but this was ... more entertaining than it had any right to be. The rhymes are clever, but at the same time very natural and at times ridiculous. What I loved most about it was that it didn't try to be perfect in any way, it just flows naturally and unforced, with a little bit of a mischievous note. Could you make up some new words of your own and explain what they mean? Could you use them in a sentence / story?
