About this deal

Despite its sleek good looks, the radius 270 doesn't settle for less than excellence in the sound quality stakes. The latest Radius range comes with gold C-CAM dome tweeters. These give the ideal balance between detail and smoothness. Upper frequencies stay clear and uncongested - even at high volume levels where inferior designs begin to distort. Twin C-CAM woofer units not only provide an insightful mid-range but also help boost bass to the levels expected from floorstanding speakers. Offering a well-balanced and accurate sound, the Radius 270s suit a wide range of music. Standing well over 1 metre tall, the EVO 4.4 speakers suit medium-sized to larger rooms. They can either be used as they are, in stereo, or as part of an EVO AV speaker system, with matching centre and rear speakers available. For many years, the Monitor Audio Bronze range has been the choice of critics and audiophiles on a budget alike. Now in its sixth generation, the Bronze is better than ever. Improvements to the famous metal drive units makes the sound more focused and lifelike. A crisp new design with contemporary finishes makes this the coolest Bronze yet.

Dab radio can be a bit hit n miss, although I suspect that is down to my location and aerial signal strength. The classic style remains put the sound quality has come on by leaps and bounds since the first Linton speakers. At the time of the first Lintons, woven Kevlar would be an exotic material for the likes of NASA only. With the current Linton, though, the material is put to good use in the bass and mid-range drive units. Combined with the soft dome tweeter, it gives the Linton speakers an expansive sound with powerful bass and detailed treble.PMC has something of a reputation for high-end hi-fi, and while the superb Prodigy 5 have wound up as our best premium floorstanders on this list, they're actually miraculously good value. The What Hi-Fi?team has more than 100 years experience of reviewing, testing and writing about consumer electronics. We have state-of-the-art testing facilities in London, Reading and Bath, where our team of expert reviewers do all our in-house testing. This gives us complete control over the testing process, ensuring consistency. We always ensure we spend plenty of time with the speakers and turntables, trying them with different electronics and with different music. Wharfedale's Diamond range received the addition of a truly outstanding (and affordable) floorstander in 2021, and we were so impressed by the Diamond 12.3's musical performance we've deemed it a What Hi-Fi? Awards winner in 2021, 2022 and 2023. While the Prodigy 1’s precision and organisation warrant the label ‘analytical’, the speakers aren’t informative at the expense of entertainment. Systematic, yes, but anything but soulless.

One benefit of floor standing Speakers is that they are instantly ready for setup and positioning, whereas a bookshelf speakers will require a speaker stand, position tweaking and varying amounts of stand filler to tailor bass performance. Just as adding mass to a speaker stand will improve the scale and authority of bass performance, a weighty floor standing speaker cabinet can also improve the dynamics, depth and authority of the bass as it uses the entirety of the cabinet to create bass resonance. First things first, decide on a budget. Your components should be evenly matched, both tonally and in terms of price, so consider this before breaking the bank on a new pair of speakers that the rest of your kit can't do justice to. At a height and depth of just over 25cm, these compact speakers are perfect for a wide range of applications. Ideal for smaller rooms or even desktop systems, the 3010i’s give an impressively full range sound – even without a separate subwoofer. Alternatively, if you’re looking for top quality home cinema sound, the 3010i’s make ideal satellite speakers – especially when combined with the matching sub and centre speakers from the 3000i-Series. Although the Aria 926 speakers stand over a metre tall, their smooth lines and luxury finish means they effortlessly blend with your decor. Ideally used in medium-sized rooms at a listening distance of around 3 metres, these speakers create a 'wall of sound'.Taller and wider than contemporary standmount speakers, the Lintons have a unique presence. That ‘big box’ style is successfully offset by the real wood finishes and dark grille (leave this on for the recommended sound balance), making them less intrusive in your room than you might expect. That bigger, boxier design also means deep, effortless bass. At 98cm tall, the Diamond 12.3 aren't a particularly imposing pair of floorstanders, so they'll fit into most spaces. Sonically, they're smooth, even-handed and wonderfully refined for the money. Feed them a poor signal and they’ll round off rough edges and downplay unwanted aggression without sounding like they’re smothering the life out of the music.
