About this deal

Not only that, but because it spins much less it will also allow average golfers to find more fairways as it won't deviate as much with side spin from hooks or slices. So basically, it’s straighter and longer, but only if you aren’t a highly accomplished player. Yeah, if you're making a big deal about how flawed painted golf balls are, you better make sure the painted ones you are selling are done differently to everyone else! Irons grab bag: 1-PW Golden Ram TW276, NV105 S; 1-PW Golden Ram TW282, RIP Tour 115 R; 2-PW Golden Ram Vibration Matched, NS Pro 950WF S; testing: Arias D-23 5i w/Modus 120 S

There is a world of difference when it comes to performance of a low compression, two-piece ball like the DUO when compared to a higher compression, premium ball such as the ProV1 for example. No buying guide would be complete without at least mentioning price. Thankfully most brands make models at different price points and you can rest assured there is decent performance on offer across the price spectrum. It is also worth considering that personalized balls cost a little more money. It’s only with short iron approach shots where this ball’s shortcomings are noticeable, and even then it won’t be too obvious for most players. When you’re hitting an 8 or 9 iron into a green you would ideally want a little bit more feel and spin than you get from the DUO, but all things considered this is a great golf ball.

50 Words or Less

Wilson offers two premium golf balls in its current range, the Staff Model and Staff Model R, both of which offer tour-proven performance. Both balls feature a four-piece construction and highly responsive urethane cover, with the result being distance and control in the long game and ample spin and soft feel on and around the greens. The primary difference between the two models is that the R version of the ball is unpainted, which Wilson says will deliver a more controlled trajectory, increased short game spin, and improved accuracy on full shots. Do any professional golfers use Wilson golf balls? This low-compression Wilson ball promises extreme distance through a hard ionomer cover material that optimizes trajectory for maximum yardage and roll. And from our testing, we can vouch that this ball certainly delivers. The enhanced aerodynamic dimple pattern really does add to the power potential from the tee and we were so impressed by its distances that we have included it in our best distance golf balls guide. The Wilson Staff Model ball is very white. This seems to be the way with some brands. They are a kind of brilliant white as opposed to the repressed look I am used to. The model R has a duller look. The branding is also very sure of itself, the Staff brand is bold in its modern, capitalised type face. I’m very much in the latter category and of all the balls I’ve tested recently the DUO has been the one I’ve most enjoyed putting with. I love the feel of it off the putter as it’s so soft you almost don’t even feel it at all. That isn’t going to suit everyone of course. I quite enjoyed hitting it with driver too and I got a fair amount of distance from the DUO. My swing speed with the driver averages around 95/96mph so it’s a little higher than what would be optimum for this ball (swingers of 90mph or less will see the best results) but it performed well for me, an average golfer.

Most of my golf ball testing is done on a launch monitor where I can tease apart the minute differences between models. While I’ve done that with the Wilson Staff Model golf ball, I’ve also gotten an above average amount of on-course time with it. Both forms of testing have left me impressed. Here at Golf Monthly, our highly experienced team of testers play a lot of golf in different conditions throughout the year. Through our rigorous testing procedures, our collective goal is to test every golf model on the market as soon as it becomes available, putting in the hours in all weathers out on the golf course, the practice ground and the short-game area.Company number: 1394141; Registered office: Media House, Peterborough Business Park, Lynch Wood, Peterborough PE2 6EA and H Bauer Publishing, All in all I think this ball is as good as anything else out there and if it performs for me with wedges like it did for me today it will be a serious contender for my 2021 gamer. In theory all of this does make sense, but realistically the margin of difference between an imperfectly painted ball and a perfectly painted one is going to be negligible to the point of being impossible to even measure. Just like the Staff Model R it has a V-COR for increased distance off the tee and a 362-dimple pattern smooths airflow around the ball for a lower ball trajectory and maximum distance.

Are you very much a classic white ball player, or someone open to playing something a little different as the golf ball world evolves? There's more choice than ever in this regard and if you are reading this guide, chances are you want a slightly different color or look to your golf ball. Whenever possible, we will also seek to acquire launch monitor data for a more detailed analysis of each ball model's performance. Specifically, when it comes to Wilson Staff golf balls, we put each ball through its paces on the range and out on the course. We try and assess the difference between these golf balls compared to other options on the market, with a view to measuring them against the best brands in golf. How to choose golf ball With irons the ball felt pretty good. I'd describe it as a tinge firmer than the ProV; it feels solid. My iron game was less than fantastic yesterday, but I felt I certainly wasn't losing anything with the Staff.Wilson's golf ball brainboxes have put a tremendous amount of research and thought into this product and when it comes to performance it can hold its own with anything at the top end of the market. I have to say that when I moved away from the putting green to hit some pitches that I found the Wilson very agreeable. As you can see apart from one obvious mishit my ball speeds and carry numbers were really consistent. I am not convinced in a blind pitching test that I would have been able to tell the difference between the Wilson and more premium models on test. The benefits of not going extreme with feel are twofold. For Wilson, it means no one is going to be turned off by the Staff Model. For the golfer, it puts the focus on playing the game, not thinking about the ball and how it might react. Wilson has also implemented its new V-COR construction to create a core that delivers increased velocity and distance gains through the bag. Additionally, a proprietary painting process ensures the finish on each ball is perfect and that every Staff Model ball performs as intended on the course. Finally, it comes with a seamless 362-dimple pattern which helps to produce a flatter, more controlled trajectory, which makes the Wilson Staff Model an excellent option for golfers who often find themselves playing in windy conditions. The driver spin is just north of average for a Tour ball, but that’s provided me with some extra carry distance and better consistency. Ball speed is also excellent.

Urethane-covered balls offer the best spin control and feel but do cost more. Experiment with each to see if you notice enough of a difference to justify the extra cost, or whether the best mid-price golf balls might be an option. Putter: Snake Eyes Viper Tour Sv1, 34" -or- Cleveland Huntington Beach #1, 34.5" -or- Golden Ram TW Custom, 34" -or- Rife Bimini, 34" -or- Maxfli TM-2, 35" I was getting punchy, and consistent distance from my 7 iron, consistent with the variable CHS I was producing More layers. Higher spin. Better control. Unmatched distance and shot-shaping off the tee. Tour-level workability on the fairways. Predictable stability on approach shots and exceptional control around the green. The Wilson Staff Model is one of the best premium golf balls on the market and a ball that is being played on professional tours around the world. The Staff Model features a four-piece construction and soft urethane cover - a combination that delivers exceptional distance off the tee while providing players with maximum control and exceptional feel from 100 yards out.It is important to point out here that this does not impact on performance at all but visually it will be off-putting to some golfers. You don’t expect a brand new shiny golf ball that you’ve only played two holes with to look like one that has been lying in a muddy ditch for six months. OverallThe 50-yard pitch data I collected was not too bad, although not as much spin as I’d like to go out on the golf course with. I am a really low spinner, I am working on it but even for me these numbers are a bit on the low side. This will be a problem for some players and not for others. I have found that by moving to a high spinning ball I can get as much as 500 more RPM which helps me on short and long shots. Staff Model is a true Tour-caliber, 4-piece urethane golf ball that delivers unmatched precision, speed and consistency. Since uneven paint can adversely affect performance, Staff Model is painted using a finely controlled application process that ensures every urethane ball leaves the factory with a nearly flawless finish. This means you can trust that Staff Model will always go where you need it to go. This is pure precision. A unique core composition magnifies energy to generate maximum velocity off the club face for greater distance performance. The Staff Model’s four layers work together to produce unmatched shot-shaping off the tee, Tour-level workability off the fairways, predictable stability on approach shots and exceptional control around the green”, says Global Director of Wilson Golf Ball Innovation Frank Simonutti.
