About this deal

It’s important to note here that you should only use 3Doodler’s own branded filaments as this is what is recommended by the manufacturer. Speed Buttons Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. See how we test. Both the Create+ and the Start+ 3D pens have a button that allows you to control the flow of the filament. A: Design-wise a 3D pen looks like a beefed-up and bulkier version of an ordinary pen or pencil; however, instead of being filled with lead or ink, a 3D pen utilizes plastic to create designs and shapes.

It’s worthwhile pointing out here that it’s not straightforward to draw very detailed designs with either pen. In fact, I was suprised at how hard 3D pen drawing was when we first started! My kids needed a lot of time to practice and of course were frustrated when their designs didn’t immediately turn out great.

The Start pen which is battery-powered worked much better in this way. I also felt more comfortable letting my young kids use it without needing to watch them closely because of the heat safe rubber tip. Design - The first 3D pens were very bulky and slightly cumbersome, which did make them more challenging to hold and manage. As technology is advancing, pens are becoming slimmer and more ergonomic in design so that they are easier to carry, direct, and control. Many pens are now compact in design and can also be conveniently recharged via USB, which is a significant advantage. The design of a pen plays a massive part in how natural it feels when you hold it in your hand. Ideally, you want something lightweight and ergonomic but also a pen design that features a visible filament window so that you can see how much ink you have left to work with. Whether you're a hobbyist, DIYer, designer, or professional artist, the Create+ offers a whole new way to create and fix. Extrude heated plastic that hardens almost instantly, so you can draw 3D structures, freehand or on stencils. Our non-toxic PLA, ABS and FLEXY plastics, are made in the USA, UK & Spain to ensure the highest quality possible. We've seen our community use the 3Doodler to create unique art, fix things, design wearable items, build models, and so much more!

The 3Doodler Create 2.0 design has been improved to a sleek, shiny metal look. The 3D pen weighs 1.8 ounces, is much slimmer and looks like the conventional pens. The slimmer body allows a firm grip, enabling you to create and excellent doodles and drawings. A flexible rubbery grip at the tip makes the pen easy to hold. The original 3Doodler 3D pen had a round, fat bottom but a slim top. Some customers not only found this look awkward but also complained of the penís heavyweight. The first 3Doodler received low rating from reviewers, compelling the manufacturer to improve its design.

Saying this, both 3D pens are a great option for education. They are small enough to carry them around and easy enough to store.

On the other hand, the Start+ is ideal for projects on the move and it’s also a little easier to handle. I later decreased the temperature of the pen by following the online directions (they don’t specify how many degrees it changes). This made this problem minimal, but it was still consistent. The pen itself is easy to hold and lightweight. You have to keep it plugged in while you use it, so be mindful of the cord while you're doodling. The plastic comes out hot but cools and dries right away. The pen itself does get hot. Touching the metal tip of the pen could cause a burn, so parents should watch younger kids when they're using the 3Doodler. Unlike the original version, the Create 2.0 version has a slender body, is stronger and lightweight. Features of 3Doodler Create 3D Pen

Dual Temperature

It doesn’t just get into the way when you are drawing but you also need to carefully consider where you are doodling. One of the biggest differences between the Start and Create pen is that the Start is powered by battery. Speed Control: You can have non-stop doodling sessions with the 3Doodler 2.0 thanks to the new continuous flow function and the dual speed control. The 3Doodler filament speed control feature is one of the reasons that make the 3Doodler Create popular on the market. With this feature, you can draw continuously for up to two hours. This is a great feature if you are making complex 3D models. Another popular way to use 3D pens is for prototyping. This could be creating prototypes for new products, small parts or even architectural models.
