Their size has a couple of advantages. One is that you can slide your fingertip up and down on the outside to control the volume. This next-gen flagship model are highly recommended for anyone seeking the ultimate ANC experience from a pair of earbuds. Apple’s Spatial Audio is another headline feature, and there’s even an all-new Adaptive Transparency mode, which is highly effective. Pressure and touch-sensitive controls add another layer of usability, with a simple swipe of the earbuds stem now adjusting volume, while the buds’ battery life has been boosted to six hours of listening with ANC engaging. For those that own an iPhone, iPad or MacBook, the brilliant AirPods Pro 2 are the wireless earbuds to buy. Several earbuds that we recommend do offer IPX7 protection – often the most high-end or sport-focused options – which should be suitable for most users who are just looking for solid sweat, splash and rainproof options. There’s an equaliser function on the app, with Balanced, More Bass, More Treble and Voice settings or, my favourite, ‘Personal Sound Profile’. This optimises the sound for you alone, based on a five-minute hearing test – various tones and sounds in each ear – which feels quite scientific and does indeed give you a richer, more detailed sound. Sound quality:Different models offer different sound, and since you’re buying a pair to enjoy music individually, it’s important to find headphones that match your sound preference, be it heavy bass or distinctively clear to where you can hear the littlest nuances in recordings. Some models like the NuraTrue Pro (top) offer personalized sound via companion app, which allows the user to create their own profiles and tweak EQ levels to their hearing.
