Chester Racecourse has a wheelchair route running throughout, and disabled parking can be arranged at the adjacent Holiday Inn Express. students will help in the creation of a group anchor chart and will engage in the Smart Partners strategy. All students will complete a graphic organizer to demonstrate the ability to retell the main ideas from the beginning, middle and end of the story. This is a number game that also has an embedded discussion about alike/different. It is very simple and also helps kids practice counting, one-to-one correspondence, and their colors. Chester's Way is a sweet book about two friends named Chester and Wilson that do everything together and are very similar. When Lilly moves into the neighborhood things change a bit because she is so different. At first the boys aren't sure if they want to be friends with her, but through a twist in the plot they realize what a great friend she could be after all. Have you ever disliked someone? My son currently has two boys in one of his classes that he doesn't like AT ALL. The relationship reminds me a bit of Chester and Lilly. The two boys in his class are very different from him and a little bit hard to like because they don't treat him very nicely.

RL.1 Read and comprehend a variety of literature within a range of complexity appropriate for grades 2-3. By the end of grade 2, students interact with texts proficiently and independently at the low end of the range and with scaffolding as needed at the high end. The quirky boutique hotel Oddfellows boasts two magnificent bars. If notified at the time of booking, the tour route can be adjusted to accommodate the needs of those with limited mobility. Chester’s City Walls are the most complete of their kind in Britain! My son and I talked about the two boys that he dislikes and we decided to do something to change his attitude and make them his friends. We are calling this "a month of love for ________." Then Lilly moves in, with HER special way of doing things. And Chester and Wilson avoid her like the plague. Seriously. But she saves the day with water guns when some bigger boys decide to taunt Chester and Wilson (it's the hand signals), and they discover that her own weird way of doing things isn't so bad - and that they have a lot in common with her as well. So they become friends. Today, I am going to stop a few times as I read the story and then ask you to turn and talk to your partner. Your Smart Partner job will be to share one important event from what you just heard in the story. You and your parnter may choose different events or might have the same idea. Either way is fine. I want you to start your conversation with this thinking stem, 'I'm thinking...'. Add this speech bubble to the Smart Partners anchor chart if it isn't already there. My job is to read the story. Who can remind us of what your job is? Allow student responses about the task and being a good listener/partner. Let's get started. Listen carefully as I read.

After practicing the correct way, allow the students to demonstrate incorrect models of the strategy. Keep this short, but allow all kids to engage and be a little silly. Be sure to immediately return to the correct model to reinforce that learning. The downstairs café area in CUPS is fully accessible (bar a slight lip on the door), and games can be played in this area if guests are unable to access the main gaming zone upstairs.
