About this deal

Similar to the X11 it’s a little too big and awkward for a dedicated kindling hatchet. You will often find yourself holding mid-handle and the larger blade feels like overkill for smaller pieces.

Straight from the store, you can use this tool and most people will appreciate its sharpness. We tested it by lopping off some small branches and splitting some small pine rounds. It delivers deep, clean cuts and holds its edge well. This axe can split larger hardwood if you’re in a pinch, but it’ll take plenty of swinging. Remove the protective cover by flipping a level and sliding it off. You’ll discover a bit with a thin, wide edge made from double hardened steel. While the swell of its pommel provides a natural resting place for the hand, I found the texturing to be a bit abrasive against the skin of my pinky finger. I don’t consider this hatchet the best for the money. I believe it’s the best overall, in terms of quality, and I believe it’s well worth the price. If money isn’t an issue for you, I highly recommend this hatchet. Otherwise, you might consider getting something almost as good for half the price.

Fiskars X7 Hatchet Review

I believe the Husqvarna 13″ 15″ wooden hatchet offers the most value for the money. Coming in at a very, very close second place is the Prandi German-style hatchet. I highly recommend either one. Both hatchets offer such a great value for the money they cost. The FiberComp handle is strong and lightweight despite being completely hollow. Some people might worry about being too heavy-handed with a handle like this but let me tell you, it is stronger than steel and as good if not better than any wooden handled ax I own. The length is perfect to get rapid swings without much wind-up. The lip at the base of the handle really helps to keep a good grip on the hatchet enabling you to feel more comfortable when hard at work. There is also a lanyard loop for extra safety. Size and Weight For survivalists, I don’t recommend the Fiskars X7. I know I’ll catch a lot of flak for this but don’t waste your money. In a survival scenario, you want a hatchet you can fix when it breaks. Hatchets and one-handed axes also pose a danger to your off-hand if used incorrectly. Don’t hold the wood you are swinging at. The actual X10 doesn’t seem to be sold in North America, just the Gerber branded Freescape 17.5. These axes are identical ( again Gerber is owned by Fiskars).

While they are interesting, these axes have never really spoken to me as they have the same head design, material, and performance as the X-series axes, but can cost 3 times more.In this Fiskars X-Series Axes Comparison Guide, we explain what each different model is designed for and what it is best used for. You will learn the difference between a hatchet and a camping axe as well as come out knowing which axe you need. Fiskars X-Series Axes Comparison It was possible to split small spruce and pine logs but that’s not what this axe is designed for. It’ll do the job when you’re away from home, but you’re better off with the Fiskars X27 or X25 axe for tougher splitting jobs.

There is typically a range of axes that could fit into any role, and it’s up to you what the right tradeoff is. Length

If you need a splitting axe, I suggest you switch to this article: Which Fiskars Splitting Axe is Right For You. It gets more in depth on those models.

After splashing water on the handle, its grip didn’t become slippery. A handy feature if you’re likely to use the X7 in wet conditions. Strengths of a Fiskars X7 The two types of Fiskars axe types are chopping and splitting, and they look almost identical – but they are different.Unlike the chopping axes, the splitting axes are only for splitting. But they are very popular because they are very effective and affordable. I think they are the best value splitting axe on the market (and one of the best all-around).
