About this deal

Crafted using the true essence of Italy - Pinot Grigio, Sangiovese, Nebbiolo and Barbera. These grape varieties can all be found in Italy’s finest growing regions that circumnavigate the idyllic lakes of the north.

Classic Old Tom Gin from The House of Botanicals is a historic style of gin reminiscent of 18th century gins. These gins had sugar added to them to make them smoother and to mask undesirable flavors in the gin. The judging panel described the gin as: John Soden, CCO of Ginato owner Kirker Greer Spirits, said: “We have been blown away by the success of Ginato Italian Gin in every market it has entered so far, and our goal is to continue to build on that success as we introduce the product across Australia. The Australian drinks industry is extremely dynamic and we feel that Ginato will be a great addition to the Dan Murphy’s and BWS premium spirits portfolio.” The TV personality is the new face of Ginato Italian Gin, which has recently launched in 22 countries. There are all the gin elements a traditionalist would want – but seen through a Scandinavian filter. It’s like rolling a lemon in your hands in a cool pine forest. That vibrant pine element becomes sweeter and more heathery on the palate, with a high note of coriander dying away slowly on the finish. It’s elegant, highly drinkable, different and yet still respectful. Good as a Martini or a G&T. Organic. Alc 40.5%

Gins from Europe: 16 to try

Opihr Aromatics Bitters Gin is a savory led gin with a distinctive bitter note from cascarilla bark, along with burnt orange and fragrant myrrh. The judging panel described it as:

The Clementino expression adds clementine oranges to the blend, resulting in a ‘vibrant orange’ colour. Meanwhile, the Pompelmo expression is made from Sicilian pink grapefruit peel, giving the liquid a rose-pink tint. BELFAST design and spirit company Drinksology Kirker Greer has announced a new partnership with celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo. Most Spanish and Italian gins go down the citrus route, but not Gin Mare. This is savoury rather than sweet – think olives and garrigue, particularly rosemary and thyme – with a touch of sea-breeze saltiness and a twist of lemon. It’s sweeter and softer on the palate than you’d expect, so although it works fine in a G&T, it’s at its best in a Martini, where it can show off its subtlety and silkiness. Alc 42.7%

The arrangement will see the celebrity chef become a partner and Maestro del Gusto (Master of Flavour) for Ginato, pairing the gin with Italian food recipes and helping develop new Ginato Gin variants and releases over the coming years. Hand sourced from the rolling hills of Tuscany and the green heart of Umbria. The crops grow at high elevations where there are few trees and many wildflowers. The Italian berries are a smaller, higher grade, more complex and fruity in flavour.

Brilliantly complex and herbal on the nose, bursting with notes of peppermint tea and apple blossom. The palate offers a layered floral profile alongside fruitier characters. Bold, bright, and fabulously intriguing, demonstrating wonderful length and poise on the finish. We use the grape in the base alcohol, combining a considered blend of grape and grain spirit. The grape spirit fundamentally provides a unique texture to the gin, and when we redistill our base spirit to make gin, we also add Pinot Grigio grape as one of the botanicals to bring about the underlying aroma and flavor of this most popular of wines. Combine this with Sardinian citrus and we land on a particularly clean, crisp, citrus-forward gin with hints of apple and pear from our grape choice. Chief executive Steven Pattison said: “The Ginato range encapsulates a true Italian spirit and without a doubt, Gino D'Acampo is the perfect fit for the brand.

Two expressions in the range , Ginato Clementino and Ginato Pompelmo, will be available to buy in the Australian off-trade. Other Gold Outstanding medalist gins included North Point Distillery, Crosskirk Bay Gin and Edwards Distillers, Four Feathers Raspberry and Lime Gin. The latter was described by the judging panel as: Attractive pale pink colour. Sensational aroma with lashings of grapefruit on the nose. Good blend of floral and citrus on the palate, with a hint of coriander. Very well-constructed, with perfect sweetness and lingering aftertaste.
