About this deal

The teacher sneered at the shabby boy and replied, “What? A poor kid like you wants to learn to paint? You must be daydreaming! Get out of my sight!” All in all, excellent book, in fact my favourite Donaldson (though recent 'Snail and Whale' from the Scheffler/Donaldson partnership comes close second).

Funnily enough, I find it harder to write not in verse, though I feel I am now getting the hang of it! My novel THE GIANTS AND THE JONESES is going to be made into a film by the same team who made the Harry Potter movies, and I have written three books of stories about the anarchic PRINCESS MIRROR-BELLE who appears from the mirror and disrupts the life of an otherwise ordinary eight-year-old. I have just finished writing a novel for teenagers. The mountain is on the other side of the sea.” replied Liang. “I’ll show you.” Liang drew the golden mountain on the other side of the sea. But in the village, there lived a rich man who was mean and decided to steal the paintbrush from the young man so that he could use it to become even richer. So he sent his servants to Ma Liang's home to steal the magic paintbrush. As the boat started out slowly towards the island, the emperor demanded that Ma Liang make it go faster. So Ma Liang sketched a few broad strokes in the air and immediately huge gusts of wind started blowing, propelling the boat forward. The emperor laughed and asked Ma Liang to draw a boat so they could shake the money tree. So Ma Liang drew a big wooden boat and the emperor and his guards boarded it.

After several days of riding, Ma Liang arrived at the next village and decided to start a new life there. He began selling his paintings on the street, but he was careful not to paint any animals that could come to life, as he feared the consequences.Ma Liang quietly walked away, his heart filled with disappointment. However, he remained composed and calm. In his mind, he thought, “I just don’t believe a poor child is not good enough to learn painting.”

The story gives a lot to talk about: first, of course is the magic of the brush - what would you paint, and for whom? But there are also the moral messages: the simple ones regarding keeping one's promise (Shen does, even in the face of powerful and very scary emperor) and greed being a Bad Thing; but also higher-level ones, about artistic integrity perhaps and not selling out or being scared by the powerful. Artists' creative power comes with responsibilities, too.

Ma Liang drew an island in the middle of the ocean and on the island, a tall and big tree. “Isn’t that the money tree you wanted?” he asked the emperor. I studied Drama and French at Bristol University, where I met Malcolm, a guitar-playing medic to whom I’m now married. This...is my magic brush. When I draw with this, all my wishes come true! A strange old man in a white coat gave it to me...” — Bowser Jr., Super Mario Sunshine

The Magic Paint brush “ is a Chinese fairy tale that has been translated into many languages around the world and has inspired numerous literary and artistic works . It tells the story of a poor boy named Ma Li ang , who lost his father early in life . Because of his strong passion for painting , he was gifted a magical paint brush by a deity , which allowed him to develop his talent . Ma Li ang used the magic paint brush to help the poor in his village and fight against greedy and cruel oppress ors . It would be great to have a paintbrush,” Ma Liang said to himself every day. Ma Liang and the Magic Paintbrush I’ll draw you a boat to get to the mountain,” said Liang. And he drew a golden dragon boat that was even bigger and more beautiful than the emperor’s boat. The rich man climbed aboard the boat and stood in the bow facing the golden mountain. He said to Liang,” Now draw me a wind to take the boat to the mountain.” Liang began to draw a wind, and the boat set sail. The rich man stretched his arms out to grab the golden mountain. “Make the wind stronger so I can get there faster,” he said to Liang. Liang kept drawing and the wind got stronger. Soon the wind became a terrible gale and the rich man’s beautiful boat sank beneath the sea and took him down with it. However, one day, he accidentally dropped a drop of ink on a white crane he had painted, and to his amazement, the crane came to life and flew away. This caused a commotion in the village, and soon everyone heard about the boy with the magic paintbrush. It features beautiful illustrations on every slide, supporting the text and helping to bring the story to life. They're full of colour, and each character's expression matches their emotional reaction to the magic. One day, Ma Liang walked past a school and saw a teacher painting with a brush. Without hesitation, he walked into the classroom and asked the teacher, “I want to learn painting. Can I borrow a paintbrush from you?” Bowser • Bowser Jr. ( Shadow Mario) • Eely-Mouth • Gatekeeper • Gooper Blooper • King Boo • Manta • Mecha-Bowser • Monty Mole • Petey Piranha • Plungelo • Wiggler There was once a young boy named Ma Liang. He lived in a small village in China. He was poor and friendly, and he loved to draw. His love for painting was too much so he drew paintings all over the place. One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. It was great to hold the book in my hand without it vanishing in the air the way the songs did. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. Most children love acting and it’s a tremendous way to improve their reading. The story is about a girl called Shen who is given the amazing gift of a magic paintbrush. She is told never to paint for rich people but to use it to help the poor. But the emperor hears about Shen and decides he will use her gift to add to his already enormous wealth. Shen of course refuses and is thrown into jail by him. As her paintings come to life she finds a way to get herself out of jail and get rid of this horrible Emperor once and for all. Because Shen is a beautiful person she decides against it but finds a way for the whole village to live happily ever after.
