About this deal

Note that with the NXT update, Therm-a-Rest got rid of the previous generation’s “ women’s XLite,” which I personally was a fan of. It was shorter and a bit warmer, but weighed the same. The new NXT series keeps the small length option but pins the warmth at a constant R=4.5 across all sizes, which I suppose is a more consistent way of doing things. On the other hand, Thermarest NeoAir XLiteweighs 12 oz. Even though it’s 3.2 oz heavier than the Uberlite thanks to Thermarest’s innovative design, it’s still one of the lightest sleeping pads on the market (I have a table of other alternatives belowso you can get the main idea). Therm-a-Rest have used an amazingly lightweight 15D nylon material for the outer, which is still incredibly durable, to keep the weight of this sleeping pad to a minimum. They have coupled this with their proven two-layer Triangular core matrix construction, the same as the other NeoAir mats, to minimise convection heat loss to be able to achieve the warmest most efficient pad in its class! This is unfortunately where I have some negative things to say about the UberLite. Where the XLite uses stronger 30D fabric top and bottom, the UberLite uses 15D fabric, which seems not quite up to the challenge.

A tapered mummy shape is classic for ultralight pads. These taper from the hips down and cut on weight. More on sleeping pad shapes in our Guide. The UberLite is smaller than the XLite (left) and Big Agnes AXL (right), all size Regular. But the difference is small, and I’d say that other factors should drive your buying decision. Leave a comment! Therm-a-Rest's lightest airbed. From alpinists to thru-hikers, those who need the lightest gear have a new standard for ultralight comfort with this superlight pad. Thermarest says Featherweight Weighing just north of half a pound, the UberLite sets a new standard for ultralight comfort. We tested the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir UberLite in a size Regular, which is the standard model most people will want. My experience with the XLite, XTherm, AXL, and now UberLite is that these pads make less noise with age and when paired with older shelter floors. Repeated folding of the pad seems to soften the materials, and normal use seems to buff the fabric coatings. Warmth

Another good thing about this pad is it’s made of considerably durable material (for an air pad) therefore it offers you a great longevity for years of use. What’s the correlation between air temperature and sleeping pad R-values? When do you need a pad with a higher R-value? This table is based on Exped’s recommendations in Fahrenheit and Celsius degrees. Air Temperature (F): With its compact design and feather-like weight, Uberlite is great, but as you might guess there are some trade-offs here, it’s not the most durable air sleeping pad on the market, it’s made of low denier (15D Nylon) fabric therefore if you decide to go with the Uberlite you need to be extra careful. Thermarest’s proprietary construction provides the critical warmth needed for your lightweight adventure. NeoAir XLite: The best choice for most people. Excellent balance of weight and warmth, perfect for three-season adventuring and still suitable for occasional overnight lows into the 20’s F. Get the XLite if you adventure in spring, summer, and/or fall conditions but not often in snowy winter conditions.NeoAir XTherm: Warm all-season pad suitable for winter adventures with nights around 10 degrees F or below. Still impressively light with minimal weight penalty relative to the XLite. Get the XTherm if your adventures don’t stop when it’s snowing, or if you sleep cold and often adventure in chilly spring or fall conditions and want a little extra warmth. Big On Comfort2.5 inches (6.4 cm) of cushion provides luxurious rest during your fast and light activities. Standard width for most sleeping pads. Not enough room to splay elbows, but weight is the key here. It also tapers due to the mummy shape. This matt has an R-Value of 2.0 which in real terms means that this matt is best suited to warmer weather trips and adventures.R-Values are an international standard of insulation and (in simple terms) indicate the materials ability to reduce heat flow through conduction, radiation or convection. Therefore, the higher the R-Value, the lower the heat transfer and the greater the insulation properties of the material.
