About this deal

Generally, there aren’t any major risks associated with dental impressions. But some people have a gag reflex that’s triggered by the dental impression procedure. In these cases, your dentist can work with you to minimize discomfort. Impression materials are introduced into the mouth as viscous pastes with precisely adjusted flow properties. The viscosity and flow behavior of the unmixed components are also important in regard to the ease of mixing, air entrapment during mixing, and the tendency for the trapped air to escape before the impression is made. Mixing of cements, bases, and liners is not a procedure that the dental hygienist typically performs on a routine basis. However, the hygienist may be asked by the dentist to mix these materials if the dental assistant is absent. This situation would include using them as a temporary restoration. Step-by-step instructions for measuring and mixing some of the commonly used cements, bases, and liners serve as the basis for this chapter. II.Calcium Hydroxide Base/Liner Material A.Use Statistically, laboratories see more problems with 2-step impressions than any other technique. This is a result of the difficulty in repositioning the impression in the exact same position without creating a “step” between the original putty impression and the detailed wash impression. It is much more difficult to reseat the tray than it appears, and the result is more chairside occlusal adjustments in the completed restoration. There appears to be little difference in reducing the creation of “steps” by routing out some of the material around the prepared tooth or washing the entire arch. Our dental impression materials have passed FDA, 510K, CE, simple operation, good flexibility, and can print a complete and clear impression.

Advantages of this technique of combining both rigid and flexible matrices for restoring defects are, Enough powder has been incorporated for a base consistency when the mix “flakes” from the spatula when pressing on the cement.

Your impressions are then sent to a dental laboratory. There, a technician will pour stone into your dental impressions to create a cast of your mouth. Digital dental impressions After the impression material has completely solidified, gently tilt the tray to dislocate the impression and then rotate the tray out of the mouth. Avoid violent use when removing the impression, avoid excessively tilting the tray, to avoid deformation of the tray and the impression, or to release the impression material, to avoid the tray rubbing against the jaw or damage the soft tissue. Some clinicians suggest preparations require a taper of between 2° and 6°. However, these numbers are not achievable in clinical practice. There is no single procedure that a dentist can do, or any single procedure that a lab can do for the dentist, that will improve the final result of indirect restorations more than improving the quality of the impression. The impression is the basic starting point for all laboratory procedures, as well as the basis for quality and cost-effective dentistry for the clinician.Calcium hydroxide may be used for pulp capping and as a base/liner under other dental restorative materials in deep preparations. Attempting to prepare a tooth with a taper (even a very small one) will leave you with an over-tapered preparation. Smooth outlineHung S H et al.
