About this deal

Tef-Gel is a made with a water resistant coating that prevents oxidation of metal and paste corrosion due to the flow galvaniques between different metals. Widely trusted in the marine, automotive, aviation, and aerospace industries, Tikal Tef-Gel is the go-to choice for safeguarding crucial parts from corrosion. Rest easy knowing that your valuable components are shielded from the harmful effects of moisture and corrosion. Tef -Gel ™ paste contains 40% PTFE powder and 0% volatile solvents, no silicone's or petroleum solvents to evaporate, which would leave voids for electrolytes to be drawn into creating a galvanic cell. When both surfaces are coated and mated with Tef -Gel ™ there are no voids for electrolytes (saltwater) to be drawn in by capillary action over extended periods of time. However, we use Tef Gel in assembly to eliminate the risk of galvanic corrosion between dissimilar metals. This brilliant American-made (as used by the US Navy!) product is difficult to find in the UK, so we decided to sell it to UK yachtsmen. Tef Gel is a PTFE based waterproof lubricant with anti-corrosion and anti-seize properties. Tef Gel does not break down in salt water or detergents. Here at Eclectic, we use the highest quality marine grade material throughout, and moving parts are fitted with low-friction bearing bushes.

This project should be framed as a comparison between examples from each of the two categories of greases-organic vs. synthetic. It is not a strict head-to-head test. Lanocote is derived from sheep lanoline, one of the worlds oldest greases, while polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE, aka Teflon) is a 20th century synthetic. There is a range of similarly formulated products in either category that we expect would deliver comparable results. (Forespar makes its own synthetic product, Marelube TEF 45, that would be a better match for Tef-Gel in a true head-to-head.) Lanocote Tef -Gel ™ is derived from a specially formulated Teflon® paste & is used in high corrosive environments to ensure serviceability & presentation of assembled hardware. Tef-Gel™Applications We reserve the right to change these conditions for exceptionally large or heavy items or items of a hazardous nature. We will keep you posted of any changes to the best of our ability. Assemble your bolted connections with TEF-GEL and every connection is easy to disconnect even after intensive use in sea water.Any excess Tef-Gel™ can be removed with Mineral Spirits, (Mineral Turpentine) to leave an airtight barrier of protection. Ensure clean up products are used within the guidelines of the product suppliers and the respective Material Safety Data Sheets. When assembled hardware and fastenings are finally tightened, there needs to be a visible bead of Tef-Gel™ splayed evenly around the head of the fastener and or the hardware.

Tef-Gel™ must be applied liberally to all surfaces prior to assembly including threaded fasteners and flat surfaces of hardware including washers. Failure to adequately apply Tef-Gel™ will result in a reduction in protection. Any items that we deem unhygienic will not be processed so please clean faulty goods if returning them. Whether you go to sea for work or play, protecting your floating investment from saltwater’s destructive force is critical. We recommend using PTFE based ULTRA Tef-Gel everywhere saltwater touches joining metals. ULTRA Tef-Gel is ideal for aluminum boatsTef-Gel applied on both surfaces and bolt or nut bolt and threaded solid leaves a film of PTFE, which prevent drill steel 18/Corrosion. The application guidelines are to be used in conjunction with the product Material Safety Data Sheet and application information printed on the product label. Use mascara brush, bottle brush, or toothbrush to apply a thin coat of Tef-Gel to both the threaded hole and the bolt threads and tighten. (Torque requirements may have to be altered according to application of thread lubricants). Bottom line: PTFE synthetics have rightfully earned high marks for their anti-seize protection. Best Buy. Conclusion B. Bedding surfaces: A closely mating surface (10 mils .010 or closer) can be protected from capillary action by applying a thin coat of Tef -Gel ™ with brush, toothbrush, or plastic scraper and assembling the parts and cleaning excess product with mineral spirits or WD-40.
