About this deal

The effect you’ll achieve, though, will be far more subtle – and much more suited to smaller miniatures. The @gobble_inz Methods – Follow-On Steps Pitting corrosion is extreme corrosion that leads to the random buildup of tiny pores in the metal. It occurs at a local point on the metal and moves with the formation of a corrosion cell surrounded by the metal surface. The process of coating iron plates with tin or coating of a soldering iron with solder before its use is known as tinning. Any type of metal and mainly sheet metal is made of anti-corrosive by tinning. These metals are washed and put in acids of water and salt. I decided that it ended up simply being too much rust. I couldn't be bothered to actually strip the mini and start over, so I simply painted over it.

The first method we’ll look at is a very easy, straight-out-the-bottle way of using Dirty Down’s Rust Water Soluble Paint. This requires only a few products, so is a great one for beginners or those on a limited budget. Step 1 – Priming This technical paint provides an oxidation special effect that is best applied to metals like the areas around detailing on armour. This special effect will make your miniature look like it has been weathered and damaged by the elements. Now, Dirty Down’s Rust Water Soluble Paint looks great by itself. But it’s a very clever paint, and you can achieve some very clever and realistic effects with it by using just a few techniques. The first is to simply add a few small drops of water to some select areas of the miniature. Once the Mournfang Brown is dry, cover the areas of the miniature you wish to appear rusty with Dirty down’s Rust Water Soluble paint. These all look absolutely incredible, and we’re so grateful to @gobble_inz for sharing their wisdom with us and getting us using this paint. Painting Rust – The FauxHammer Method

Cover the model in AK Worn Effects Acrylic Fluid. We used an airbrush for this, but you can use a regular brush too. Step 7 – Add Colour That’s it. Thanks for reading. I hope I have covered everything about the “ Types of Corrosion.” If I missed something, or if you have any doubts, let me know in the comments. If you liked this article, please share it with your friends. This technical paint provides a corrosion special effect that is best applied to metals. This special effect will make your miniature look like it has been weathered and damaged by the elements. This technical paint is gritty and messy, so don’t be afraid to get it on your hands to make it look natural. Load your brush– Make sure you have a good, dry brush. Add paint to the bristles by dipping it into the pot. If you use a detail brush, apply less paint to the brush, and if you use a larger base brush, apply more paint.

Once your model is primed and ready to go, cover some of the areas with Citadel’s Typhus Corrosion. Allow the figure to dry– Put it somewhere safe and let it dry completely. This may take several hours, depending on the paint you used. The ugly strokes are caused by my useless brush, as it turned out I had already abused this particular brush sometime earlier to apply PVA and never got around to fully cleaning it. This was not beneficial for the bristles. Shrugging I waited about ten minutes and drybrushed my blob with Necron Compound (it was in use at the time). This is the end result. If you’ve completed any of the three methods we’ve just explored, there’s one last thing to do – and that’s apply a good drybrush of a nice, dark metallic paint across the whole miniature. For this, we used Darkstar’s Steel. This technical paint provides a blood-splatter effect that is perfect for gory miniatures. The paint is designed to add special effects to your model, including blood splatter, blood on weapons, and blood on open wounds.

This is very important this time around, as we’ll be using a thinner mixture of Dirty Down’s rust, so we’ll need that brown base coat. Step 3 – Shake it Off Up The most common example of this phenomenon is the selective removal of the less noble zinc element in brass alloys, also known as dezincification. Alloys composed of metallic elements that are furthest apart in the galvanic series are the most susceptible to this type of corrosion. Erosion Corrosion Next, very carefully apply some Vallejo Rust Model Wash around the edges of some of these more yellowed areas. This paint or enamel forms a layer on the job and helps in providing anti-corrosive treatment to it to a great extent. This usually adds to the beauty of the job. Red lead also provides anti-corrosive treatment. #3 PrimerSo, taking all that we learned from @gobble_inz and applying some of that signature FauxHammer corner cutting and hobby cheating charm, this is the method we came up with for painting rust using Dirty Down’s incredible Rust Water Soluble Paint. Step 1 – Priming Work this into your drybrush of choice and then apply it across the texture of your miniature using slightly circular, rotating motions. This is done by pressing or rolling the sheets together under high pressure while simultaneously extruding the two metals through a die. Cladding is used by the United States Mint to manufacture coins made from different metals. In this way, a cheaper metal can be used as a filler. #8 Silver Plating for the eroded green armor, I think I'll try to base in leadbelcher, wash in typhus corrosion and drybrush death world first green then nurgling green over that.. staying away from the edges. Adding patches of fresh metal and rust here and there. Stippling may be better tho to give the indication of randomness. We’ll be needing that nice, reddish brown later, so make sure you’ve built up a good, opaque layer before moving on to the next step, Step 4 – Dirty Down (Again)

Copper plating is the process of electroplating a layer of copper on a metal surface. It is suitable for metal plating in applications that require high conductivity at a low cost. In addition to being used as an undercoat, copper is also used as a standalone coating. FauxHammer – Latest Video on YouTube How to Paint Rust on Miniatures and Models – Paints and Tools Tools Cadmium plating is a sacrificial coating, meaning it will corrode and break down before the underlying metal, protecting it against corrosion. Cadmium has many properties, including high resistance to saltwater corrosion. Load your brush – Make sure you have a good, dry brush. Add paint to the bristles by dipping it into the pot. If you use a detail brush, apply less paint to the brush, and if you use a larger base brush, apply more paint.

Paint the other side of the blade – Now, turn the model over and paint the other side of the blade in the same way.
