About this deal

One method involves simply cutting the straight pieces to accommodate the corners and one uses a quad section. The following will explain each of these two methods and how you can use them in your channel drain structure. Method 1: The quad system

ACO Threshold drain is a slim plastic and aluminium channel which has been designed for entryways to domestic properties. Its slimline design allows the channel to be discrete and stylish without compromising on function. ACO Threshold will stop water from ponding at the entrance to a home. It’s advised that this ACO channel drain is used at the door threshold but not in the doorway. For drainage at the doorway, to prevent water from coming into the property, use ACO DoorWay drain as detailed below. This is the same as ‘channel’ drainage and often used interchangeably. The term is typically used to emphasise the difference over the more traditional ’point drains’. This is significant as linear systems tend to offer economic benefits over point drainage as a result of reduced underground piping and easier construction that results from the elimination of complicated falls or levels.

Channel drains are typically structural formers that are integral to the performance of the system but may or may not be load bearing without the required surround detail. ACO HexDrain is a high-strength channel drain manufactured with a recycled polypropylene base for use in domestic applications. Popular amongst homeowners and property developers alike, the channel drain is simple to install and comes with nine other grating options so each system can be customised to the property it’s installed in front of. Keep in mind that these can be rather difficult to create and take up much of your time. So make sure you have set time aside to create the corner unit. Once this has been done, you can move forward to the installation after the following steps have been completed. The HexDrain Corner Unit has several uses, to change the direction of the run by 90°, to form a T-junction, to connect to a rainwater downpipe or as an outlet connection. This is a term that is often incorrectly used referring the broad family of ‘Channel’ systems. While it is a ‘channel system’ with a surface element and an underlying channel component, it differs in that the surface interface is defined by a discrete slot as opposed to a grating. This can be utilised by designers for aesthetic benefit without the need to compromise on the drainage capacity. It is also used in areas subject to heavy loading where it is important to eliminate moveable parts (Qmax is an example of this). As with channel systems the materials can vary from polymer concrete to plastic and steel.

A quad section can be one of the easier ways to install a corner channel drain. Many ranges already have these available to fit alongside their standard line channel drain parts. Not only can they be placed without the need to cut to a specific size, but come in a wide variety of sizes to suit the channel drain you’re installing. ACO HexDrain is a plastic A15 load class channel drain built from recycled polypropylene for high strength and high durability. Designed with 8 possible outlet positions, this unique A15 channel drain can be used in domestic drainage projects such as along garage thresholds, landscaping projects and a range of DIY garden and patio applications. Both the ACO HexDrain base and grate come in 1m lengths and the base has markings at 500mm for easy cutting and measuring. Protective UltraSTEEL galvanised edge rails for improved strength and bonding between channel and surface materials. Also available in stainless steel

ACO channel drainage also comes in a variety of forms from pedestrian class A15 to light traffic roads class C250, domestic driveway channels B125 and a whole lot more! ACO DoorWay drain slots underneath the doorway at the point of installation meaning that the door frame doesn't need to be cut or altered. Firstly, ensure that the current set pieces of drain your additional part will connect to extends past the end of the wall where the line of the channel drain is currently against. If this has been done, place what will be the other part of the corner of the channel drain into the position you want ready for marking. Step 2: The markings You want to fit the final part of the corner. As before, measure and cut the length of the channel required to fit against to wall of the property. Before you place the channel itself, fit the end cap to the short section to ensure the channel can be installed into the correct position after.

More advanced forms of slot systems like the ACO Qmax although not load bearing in their own right, are formers that facilitate the construction of a ‘non-interrupted’ pavement. Line (or, Linear) drain ACO DoorWay drain is very similar to ACO Threshold drain except it’s wider and so will be more effective at preventing water from running into a property. If your entry pathway is at a slight slope running toward the house, it may be worth installing ACO DoorWay drain to prevent any water ingress. Strong and light weight design, with male and female channel connections to aid accurate installation The corner drain has been placed and you are ready to begin marking. Mark with a pencil or sharp marking point where each drain piece will need to be cut to ensure the corner unit fits into place. Step 3: Cutting the drain partsACO building drainage comes in a variety of forms. They have taken full advantage of their state-of-the-art manufacturing plant to create a fully flexible modular stainless steel drainage system that is available off the shelf. They also have a wide selection of stainless steel pipework and accessories in 304 grade and 316 grade stainless steel, in addition to their kitchen channel drainage, balcony drainage range, and shallow drainage systems. ACO RainDrain is another ACO drainage application favourite. Having specially developed a lightweight concrete, Vienite, using recycled polymer, ACO can offer RainDrain as a fantastic option for domestic drainage. The strong, stable base is a great foundation for the galvanised steel grating that comes with ACO RainDrain. The system is fully certificated, UKCA and CE marked to BS EN 1433:2002 from Load Class A 15 pedestrian areas, up to and including Load Class D 400 suitable for parking of all types of road vehicles*.
