About this deal

You get to see how she went from being celebrated for being this diverse, multifaceted deity to different times throughout history, depending on the political slash, religious agenda, etc. How she was often, what people seem to do to fit in with political or religious agenda would be to focus on one specific aspect of Aphrodite’s character and remove that harmonious balance of everything that she was. Mateer speaks about traumatic experiences, untold stories, love, and heartbreak throughout her story. She tells it in a creative way by having the chapters shown in two different perspectives, Aphrodite and the voice of the poet. Many individuals know Aphrodite as being the “Goddess of Love” and being very beautiful, however, in Mateer’s edition, the reader gets to hear Aphrodite tell her story and how she was forced to be and act a certain way. The poet struggles with being LGBTQ and not fitting those expectations others made of her. Aphrodite helps the poet recognize her strengths by not letting her settle or be controlled by anyone in her life. About the Author: Trista Mateer is a writer/artist who traveled a lot in her life but has finally decided to reside in New Jersey by the sea. She started out as a blogger on Tumblr in 2013 and won the 2015 Goodreads Choice Award for poetry. She then transitioned into traditional publishing and in 2017 when she released her first collection Honeybee and also went on to create “The Unholy Wild” and Aphrodite Made Me Do It, which represents her art of prose and poetry.

Nicole is already tipsy at this point, making cute jokes and adorable faces. Top-shelf stuff. Nicole assumes they’re there to tell this guy he might have a little bartender on the way but Wynonna laughs at the simplicity of that plan when surely there’s a way they could do this without having to have any difficult conversations. Her plan is to take shots with the bartender, steal his DNA, have it tested, and hope it works out that she never has to talk about her child’s parentage again. Nicole approves of this plan. Did I mention she’s drunk? The only good thing about it was the revelation that a Rev and Earp had a baby before leading to possibly being Waverly. Now that could open up a whole new set of questions; was it Ward with a Lady Rev, Did Ward have a sister who had sex with a Rev and the sister gave the baby to Ward to be protected by the heir but then again we know from Waverly that Ward was shitty to her? But if it is Waverly who is half Earp half Rev then that means she is an Earp somehow someway. I highlighted almost everything i read. Then cried. Then highlighted more. Then cried again. Now i have the whole book highlighted and crying!! Maybe i am too sensitive but for anyone that likes poetry i feel like they should read it!!

My interest in this collection spanned from my interest in mythology and Aphrodite herself, having dedicated a lot of my magical working towards her. So, naturally, once spotting this collection, I knew I had to find it and read it for myself. Needless to say, I was not disappointed.

Among all these other things, it’s an incredible view on many infamous women of mythology, and it gives a voice to the sides of their stories that we all too often overlook. It plays a strong parallel to the sides of stories from everyday women today society would have us overlook, too, and it’s powerful. Don’t miss out on this one. I’m hoping now that she’s opening up to her this wall between them (sometimes depicted quite literally in shots like this) will come down. And then, something interesting happens. Nicole says that if Wynonna is an Earp, and the bartender is a revenant, the baby is…Waverly. Now, she says Waverly because her girlfriend happens to be calling at the moment, but I don’t think that can be ignored. Wynonna asks about genetic testing and the doctor says she’d just need blood samples from her and the father, but she’s not doing it in a farmhouse with a mystical murderboard in the main room. Bestselling and award-winning author Trista Mateer takes an imaginative approach to self-care in this new poetry and prose collection, Aphrodite Made Me Do It. In this empowering retelling, she uses the mythology of the goddess to weave a common thread through the past and present. By the end of this book, Aphrodite will make you believe in the possibility of your own healing. Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer – eBook Details

Outside Pussy Willows, Nicole is telling Wynonna that she should drive, and Wynonna is telling Nicole she’s a cute drunk, when Wynonna remembers something. And this was another one of those perfectly played Scrofano moments, because Wynonna says, “Abort! Abort!” then does this cute little gasp and apologizes to her belly. so I’m not particularly familiar with what people call ~*emotions*~ but modern poetry always pulls at my dusty heartstrings. this is no different.
