About this deal

In terms of mouthfeel, both whiskies have a smooth, creamy texture that complements their respective flavours beautifully. The Caribbean Cask provides warmth and sweetness that lingers on your tongue while enjoying its complexity; in contrast, drinking the Doublewood brings out its signature sweetness that leaves you wanting more! Master distiller David C. Stewart has developed an intriguing blend of West Indian rums to be stored in American Oak casks prior to being filled with Balvenie. The end result is nothing short of sublime, offering whisky drinkers an exotic experience like no other!

Harmony: yes, this works, mostly from the balance of sweetness from rum cask balanced against sour tartness of barley citrus. Score: 22/25

To enhance these flavours even further, try adding a dollop of rich vanilla ice cream on top – this decadent combination is sure to satisfy any sweet tooth! Vanilla Ice Cream The result is an exceptional single malt whisky with the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie married with notes of toffee and a hint of fruit, with a warm, lingering finish.

Holy spicy! Honey, sugar and caramel sweetness abound. Wow… With water, the fruit comes forward a lot. The spicy sweetness doesn't go ANYWHERE though. This whisky is seriously liquid dessert. Finish2: Unfortunately I preferred it before, because that metallic note (rum?) hangs on, with some green lime. Still fairly light, but I think less balanced. (The earlier cocoa-exhale is now more like wheat bread.) This is a great whisky with some amazing flavors but it has one quality that really stands out and that is its’ uniqueness, something that I love in a whisky. I like to keep a light malt around for a varied whisky experience. (Examples could be: Auchentoshan 18 or Select, or Glenfiddich 14/19/21, or Glenmorangie 10.) It suits to initiate the palate before an evening tasting, maybe even cleanse the palate in between heavier drams, and it finds utility during warm summer days. So while this is not my ultimate variety of malt, I compliment it for being very good for its purpose: clean refreshment with mild sweetness, and completely in balance.

The multi-award-winning Balvenie Distillery in Banffshire is famous for being the only distillery in Scotland to retain the traditional core crafts of whisky production. Nowhere else will you find a distillery that still grows its own barley, still malts its own traditional floor maltings and still employs a team of skilled coopers to tend all the casks and a coppersmith to maintain the stills. The finish lingers on for a while, medium, and the roasted elements come to the forefront. Like the scrapings of a burnt toast of brown bread left for too long.

He built Balvenie 1892. It shares its water source, the Robbie Dhu springs, with Glenfiddich. It has gone from strength to strength, becoming one of the most prestigious distilleries in the world. William Grant and Sons also own Glenfiddich and Kininvie Distillery. Ultimately, what really sets these two whiskies apart is their ageing processes. While the Caribbean Cask takes on additional flavour due to its rum cask ageing process, the Doublewood gains complexity through its nine month maturation in first fill European oak Oloroso sherry butts before bottling; this unique blend results in a robust bouquet and flavour profile that simply can’t be matched by other Scotch whiskies. Balvenie Caribbean Cask vs Doublewood: Food Pairings Balvenie launched the Caribbean Cask 14 yo to mark the 50th anniversary of David Stewart joining the Balvenie distillery. It is part of the Balvenie core range. Distilled from 100% malted barley, The Balvenie then ages this Scotch for 14 years in ex-Bourbon barrels. From there, it is dumped into Caribbean rum casks where it rests for an unpublished amount of time. The Balvenie simply calls it “extra matured.”

Balvenie Caribbean Cask is a highly flavourful whisky with a unique taste profile. It starts with succulent notes of vanilla, followed by bright and juicy flavours of apple and mango that are complimented perfectly by the subtle hint of orange. This whisky has a smooth and creamy mouthfeel, which complements its complex flavour palette. The finish is marked by a pleasant sweetness that lingers on the tongue. One of the more memorable finished whiskeys I tasted last year was The Balvenie Caribbean Cask Single Malt Scotch. The Balvenie is from Scotland’s Speyside region, which features the largest number of distilleries in the country. Speyside Scotches typically are unpeated, meaning they don’t burn peat to dry the barley in the malting process. The Balvenie distillery is unusual in the fact that they grow their own barley and use a traditional malting floor to germinate and dry the barley. They’ve been doing this since 1892 when the distillery was founded by William Grant. Rich with sweet notes of ripe mango, pineapple and guava, toffee, Christmas Cake and plump rum soaked raisins. Hints of floral notes and malt intermingling with oak come to mind. Hints of fudge and soft spices.

The Balvenie Caribbean Cask and Doublewood are two of the finest whiskies produced by Balvenie. The Caribbean Cask is a 14-year-aged single malt whisky that has been finished in rum casks which have previously held a variety of Caribbean rums. This process imparts a rich, tropical flavor profile to the whisky, with notes of vanilla, coconut, and dried fruit. Meanwhile, the Doublewood is a 12-year-old single malt whisky which has also been aged in both traditional oak barrels and sherry casks. The resulting whiskey is full of flavours of honeyed sweetness, spice, vanilla and oranges. The Balvenie Distillery is a Speyside distillery in the Convals in Dufftown, Scotland, owned by William Grant and Sons. William Grant started as a bookkeeper at Mortlach distillery 1866, where he learned the distilling trade. After about twenty years at the Mortlach, he bought a piece of land near Balvenie Castle. Balvenie 14 year old Caribbean Cask gave me mixed emotions with it's rum-like dryness and sweetness. It was like a roller coaster ride of good and not that good aromas and taste. Few days before tasting Balvenie's 14 year old Caribbean Cask, I had tried a sample of Ron Matusalem 15 year old Gran Reserva rum. The tastes of these two were very similar so I have to say that the rum influence is obvious in the Caribbean Cask. The sweet, fruity notes of Balvenie 14 Caribbean Cask make it an ideal companion for desserts such as dark chocolate cake, or crème brûlée – all of which will bring out its subtle nuttiness and fragrant spices. crème brûlée Nose2: Richer but still light. It has a touch more butter than before, now sitting on wheat bread. I can imagine this buttered bread slice has a very light honey on it-- However, I still find that sweet element closer to sugarcane than honey. Probing further, the fruit is now a red apple slice.A glass of this remarkable whisky truly offers something special – an unbeatable combination of complexity and smoothness that will leave you wanting more! It can be enjoyed neat or with ice depending upon personal tastes, but however, it’s served this extraordinary single malt Scotch whisky will provide you with an unforgettable experience every single time! It’s no surprise that the folks at Master of Malt say: “This is also a single malt with the ability to convert a non-whisky drinker with its deliciousness…” As it certainly did that to me. Balvenie Caribbean Cask vs Doublewood: The Comparison Discover an exceptional single malt whisky that delivers the traditional smooth, honeyed character of The Balvenie expertly infused with notes of creamy toffee, ripe fruit and ending in a warm, lingering finish. The Balvenie Caribbean Cask 14 Year Old is a fantastic addition to your collection or a wonderful gift for any whisky enthusiast, available in a 70cl bottle ready for gifting.
