About this deal

Depressions or surface blemishes in the paint film. A common cause is rain that has fallen on the surface before the film has had chance to fully dry. Putting it right

There are a variety of undercoat options available in the UK, with water-based and oil-based choices, and others designed around specific surfaces. Almost all undercoats will include primers, meaning that they can fully prepare a surface for painting. Oil-Based Undercoat Resins present in knots causing light coloured paints to discolour or even flake. Resin bleed and flaking is a common problem where dark colours are used on south facing elevations. This is because dark colours absorb more heat than light colours. If you’re looking to refresh your uPVC doors, then choosing the right paint for your project is just as important. One of the easiest ones to use is our Dulux Weathershield Multi-Surface paint. You can apply it directly to your uPVC door without the need for a primer. Plus, it guarantees to give you 6 years of weather protection, to keep your uPVC door looking great for longer.

Loss of gloss is normally only noticed with high gloss paint & varnishes. It is caused by the settling of dew or condensation on the paint shortly after application. This is often a problem when painting out of season, or in areas of high condensation like bathrooms. Putting it right The affected area should be brushed down with a stiff bristle brush to remove as much powdery material as possible before applying a coat of Weathershield Exterior Stabilising Primer. If the powder is due to salts/efflorescence then the surface should be wiped with a dry cloth to exhaust the salts before coating with Dulux Trade Alkali Resisting primer to eliminate staining. It can then be re-painted in your chosen finish.

When the surface is thoroughly dry the affected surface will need to be rubbed down using 'wet and dry' abrasive paper. It can then be re-coated. This should only be done once the conditions improve or when the condensation problem is resolved. When the surface is thoroughly dry the affected surface will need to be rubbed down using 'wet and dry' abrasive paper. It can then be re-coated. This is usually caused by contamination of the underlying surface by soluble stains. Putting it right If your colour choice is much darker or lighter than the original, apply a primer to help your new paint colour adhere better to the surface. This is caused by painting over contaminated surfaces such as wax, oil or polish. The paint cannot adhere to the surface and draws away leaving unpainted areas. This can also be caused by contamination on the brush. Putting it right This is another type of water-based undercoat that will also include a primer. Depending on the brand it can be suitable for use on wood, masonry, and plaster. Undercoats for Wood

You will need to rub down using 'wet and dry' abrasive paper using water with a little detergent added. The surface should then be rinsed and allowed to dry before repainting. If this is impractical due to the size of area affected the area could be horizontally lined with lining paper and then repainted. Allow the surface to dry and then rub down using 'wet and dry' abrasive paper and a solution of warm water and detergent. Once rinsed and dried the area can be repainted. Application : Brush or roller only. For health and safety reasons related to all solvent-based paints, spray application is not recommended. STIR THOROUGHLY BEFORE USE. Apply 1 coat of the appropriate coloured Dulux Trade Undercoat, followed by 1 or 2 coats of Dulux Trade High Gloss. Allow a minimum of 6 hours for the undercoat to dry before applying the Gloss finish. Where a second coat of Dulux Trade High Gloss is required, allow a minimum of 16 hours between coats. This dead wood must be completely removed by rubbing it down to new sound wood. If outside, the wood can then be primed with Weathershield Exterior Preservative Primer followed by the Weathershield Undercoat& Gloss. Rotten wood Cause Intended for use with emulsion paints, water-based undercoats are vital in many cases for a smooth finish. Most of the options within the UK will also function as a primer, effectively offering protection for the underlying material and an adhesive surface for painting in a single coat. Acrylic Primer UndercoatThis is a common occurrence in new houses and is often the result of plaster drying out or movement of the building. Putting it right This is caused usually by a wearing away of the paint film by weathering or could be evidence of salts coming out of the surface. Putting it right When shopping in the UK, most undercoat options you find will also work as primers, allowing you to fully prepare a surface with one coat. Quality Building Supplies Delivered to You
