About this deal

Grandchildren!" Steven gasped. His face paled and he looked over at Ezra. "I though you didn't... am I... do you...?" But, like a said, this book wasn't totally there. It doesn't make that much sense from moment to moment and slides by on "Colby is literally such an airhead" juices. Two years and they're already getting married? That doesn't seem like long enough." Two years was no time at all, in his opinion. Yeah." Colby smiled at his mom. "We're still thinking about it and we might... we might not." He reached forward for another potato chip, shoving several into his mouth. I have, but one humble request." Jemma, Colby's mom, began to talk. "I know you'll think I'm being silly, but I feel I have to get this off my chest in case I don't make it to the wedding." She took a dramatic breath in. "I want my grandchildren to be there. My beloved little munchkins."

I know what that means." Said Ezra. He'd heard that phrase damn enough times by now. "Don't say you don't know English. Let me pay for you." It was fine, everything was fine. Colby jumped out the car first and began to do leg stretches in the parking lot. Huh? He did lunges, he touched his toes, he stretched his hamstrings. Even for Colby, this was weird.Finley is like, the kind of bestfriend that teases you relentlessly but will bite anyone else's head off if they do. He's intense about the things and people he likes. Tina was a great player, from what Brittany could remember from the last time the girls played together. Today was the first day of practice for the soccer team, and after having a perfect season the girls were driven to be better this year. The coach really didn't tell them to do anything, they all already knew the drill. So, the coach sat on the bench and watched intensely as the team did everything he had told them to do. Colby Williams? Colby? Oh... that Colby. Why did he say over? It wasn't as if they were using radios to speak to each other. "Hello, Colby."

Sophie is miss religious trauma who went to a gay conversion camp over the summer because her pastor father found out she was lesbian and now feels like she needs to evangelize to her gay friends and is a super big jerk. But like, sweetheart Colby doesn't give up on her and you see how scared she is and... This book isn't about her, but maybe it should be? Cause that's SUCH a story, and one that's I'd love to read!I used them last night." Stavros got that look on his face. The ' I did something naughty last night and I'm going to tell you about it whether you want to hear it or not.' Colby frowned at him then readjusted his tie. "What do you mean why? We're going to a super fancy restaurant. Why wouldn't I want to look nice?"

Jemma please." Ezra rubbed his temples. Why did she always have to bring this up? He felt Colby's hand touch his thigh and he tried to focus on that. Colby is the most airbrained of himbos but has the biggest heart and is like the best golden retriever boy you can imagine. I'm fine," Ezra insisted, "it's part of the job unfortunately. My boss is absolutely amazing though and he made sure that I and everyone involved was alright." The perfect time had arisen as well. All of a sudden Ezra wanted to take him and his family out for some fancy schmancy dinner. It was the perfect opportunity to propose! It was like someone else had already planned it or something. The universe worked in funny ways. His tie was off centre. A slight tilt to the left... and now it was far too left. He fiddled with it over and over, never quite getting it right. It was always off. Never perfect. Even when he thought he was one slight adjustment off perfection, it always slipped from his reach. All his own fault as well.Colby hummed into the phone. "Oh yeah! Duh doi, totally forgot. You know what it's like, in one ear out the other." Colby laughed and Steven felt under a polite obligation to laugh with him. "But yeah, I was calling to tell you where we are meeting tonight. It's this completely new place on fifth street, very chic from what I hear. It's also apparently got a big bird theme, Ezra mentioned that you're a big fan of birdwatching." You're a terrible liar." His hands went to Ezra's shoulders and he began to massage them. "It's fine. You'll be fine. I can still come if you want?" I love the characters in this story, there are so many, but they're all realistic, important, well-developed and well thought through. Although, I do find myself thinking that Finley, as much as I love him, has a new personality every time we meet him. Colby is so iconic, too, that I will forever associate that name with this book and this character. He's so endearingly dense. Thirdly, this needs an editor. A team of editors, even. Also beta and sensitivity readers. Not gonna get too much into detail here cuz I don't care to pull quotes at this point, but the dialogue, interpersonal thoughts, and everything else didn't mesh very well. The tone/vibe/whatever you call it for a story was all over the place and I really struggled to see what the "point" was of the story, thematically speaking. It wanted to be deep and thoughtful at moments and then would do something to completely contradict it and it got jarring very fast. Characterizations were also all over the place and seemed inconsistent. Character arcs can't be propped up solely by plot twists and sudden expository dumps!

Ezra left his apartment that he shared with Colby. The restaurant he was meeting his dad in was within walking distance of the apartment. He walked down the street with a faux confidence in his best shoes. Polished so much it was blinding. Ezra had polished them over and over again until Colby had to ask him to stop.Nothing else." Dr Rodriguez prodded. It was her job to ask questions and yet her kind eyes seemed all the more judgemental. As if she knew that Steven was lying. "What do you do when you're not working?" Ezra laughed. Should he bring Colby with him. He was always relaxed when Colby was with him. Although, he was sure that Colby and his dad in the same room would only stress him out more. Even now, he thought of the surprise visit of Colby one night in high school. The way his dad had tried to interrogate Colby and the way Colby — well, Colby just came for the food. Funny in hindsight, stressful in the moment. A stress he did not wish to recreate. Not just yet anyway. Colby was weird. Maybe he'd changed since they'd last met, but the phone call wasn't making Steven believe that. Working mostly as well." That was true, but if he were to honestly say what —rather, who— had been taking up so much of his time recently, he wasn't sure how well that would be accepted. It was so stupid to even think about. A man like Steven infatuated, not just with a man, but a man ten years his younger as well. A hypocrite and a cradle snatcher, that's what he would be. So, he kept it quiet for now. "I suppose that's it." chapter seven when colby's mum walks in on him watching gay porn and he says it's for educational purposes.
