About this deal

Within the EO Mini Pro, there are different lights that indicate any faults that have been detected. If there is no earth connection, then two short red flashes will appear and if the natural and live conductors are revered, four short red flashes will show. All electricians will have their own equipment for testing, but it’s a helpful feature from EO. You control everything with the EO smartphone app (more on this below), so your only real interaction with the EO Mini Pro 2 is handling the cable and plugging it in. Charging speeds The Ohme Home Pro is our favourite charger with a display, with a unique feature for kWh price caps. Make sure someone over 18 is available to meet our engineer, answer any questions and stay with them throughout the appointment.

Built-in fuse protection guards your home circuits from shorting by isolating the car from the rest of the supply. Meanwhile, new grounding technology means physical earth rods are no longer as much of a consideration, but could be an additional cost, depending on the charge point provider. The Ohme Home Pro has something no other charging device on this list has: a digital display. Appealing to anyone who has endured the frustration of waiting for a smartphone app to connect, the display offers easy-to-read, at-a-glance information, connecting to the internet via an integrated 4G SIM card, and updating over the air rather than via your home network. The engineer may need to switch off your electricity supply to install your charger. So, it's a good idea to switch off any appliances or electronic equipment that may be affected, including any household alarms, before we start your installation. Prior to the installation guy turning up, I took the cover off my fuse box but other than that wasn’t sure if I needed to do anything else. When he arrived, it turned out to be even more straightforward than expected. He didn’t need to come inside and didn’t need to touch the fuse box either. If your installation is for a workplace or commercial entity then being able to be flexible and make changes can be vital. This modular option offers a charging solution for your business to make the management of your electric vehicle fleet as easy as possible. We received the untethered version for our review, which isn’t as convenient but has the same features as the tethered version, bar the built-in cable. If the EO Mini Pro is installed with a Garo earthing device then no rod is needed, but if you don’t use a Garo, you should still use an earth rod. You can install the EO Mini Pro inside a garage for example and that way it would use the house earthing and not need a separate device. But this would mean you could only charge indoors and would have to put the electric vehicle in the garage every time, doing it outside with this setup is dangerous. To supply the cable you have to drill under and through the EO Mini enclosure, roughly a 20-25mm hole. There is an EO charging output for load management and solar array for solar charging thanks to the CT connections. The EO Mini Pro 2 is a tiny, inconspicuous ‘smart’ home charger available tethered or untethered, charging at speeds up to 7.2kW (single-phase).

The main screen presents a synopsis of your settings and tells you whether your vehicle is charging. When your vehicle is connected, it displays the charge state, charging rate, energy supplied and the state of charge. Because it’s so small, the EO Mini Pro 2 can be installed inconspicuously on posts and even trees. You can also drill through the wall behind the charger, creating a cableless installation from the outside. We supply and install home EV chargers with the EO Mini Pro 3 being a frequently chosen option, Other options for home chargers include; If you don’t have the patience then dial up the charging capacity of the Mini Pro 3 to 22kW. Always connected. The Zappi v2.1 is the best EV charger for solar panels and renewables, with feeds for these and special charge modes for balancing. Charger Comparisons Zappi vs Ohme

We explain everything you need to know to choose the best home EV charger for your property and vehicle

Installation takes around four hours and is relatively straightforward. The EO Mini Pro 2 requires a dedicated 30mA Type A RCD on the supply circuit and has integral 6mA DC leakage detection, so no Type B RCD is required. The circuit board inside the EO Mini Pro has a PCB (Printed Circuit Board) that acts as the computer with a separate control board for power control. Both are capable of receiving firmware updates automatically. EO Mini Pro 2 design The EO Mini Pro 2 doesn’t have “O-PEN” protection built-in. O-PEN detects if the earth is faulty/missing coming into the property and shuts down the charger (if the earth is faulty or missing, and there’s a fault on the charger then the car body could become live).

The charging rate of the EO Mini Pro 2 flows at 7.2kW, and is compatible with the domestic charging requirements of every electric vehicle on the market. The unit can be set to lower power output, though it cannot be done through the EO app and will require an EO-approved installer to adjust it. The EO Mini Pro 2 has an LED indicator for faults. For example, two short red flashes mean there is no earth connection, and four short red flashes mean the Live and Neutral conductors are reversed. The LED indicators are useful for testing, although an electrician will use their own equipment to test the charger. Even though the EO Mini Pro is one of the smallest EV chargers , it’s still extremely durable and robust. Any concerns people have about the EO Mini Pro size and maybe being fragile are unwarranted. It has IP54 protection and the casing is made of ABS which is the same as many other charging points. No earth rod is needed if the charger is installed with a Garo earthing device; however, if this is unavailable, an earth rod should be used.If you don’t like the EO Smart Home app, you can use your vehicle manufacturer app instead if it has one, turning the EO into a charge point you just plug into. The EO Smart Home App is simple to use and displays all important data, like energy use, charge duration and current session time on one screen.
