In 2017, Barbara narrated the acclaimed ‘Ballads of Child Migration’, the success of which led to a major UK tour the following year, closely followed by a tour of ‘Far, Far From Ypres’, the award-winning story of the Scottish war effort during the First World War. In June, Barbara plays live at the Portsoy Boat Festival with Rab Noakes - a series of live shows with Rab follow in October. Barbara's first Christmas special, 'Joy To the World', is broadcast by BBC RadioScotland on Christmas Day. An appearance at the Big Stone Celtic festival in Virginia in 2014 led to an invitation to return to play again for American audiences two year later. On August 12th, Barbara is among the artists appearing at the 'Music of Sandy Bells' concert at Edinburgh's Queens Hall.

The song signalled a new direction in her career, moving into the mainstream pop genre. The new single reaches # 11 on the charts.A 26 date tour of the UK and Ireland follows in February and March. Also in February, Barbara presents the BBC Folk Awards with Mike Harding.

Between August and November, Barbara tours as part of 'Far Far From Ypres', the story of the Scottish war effort during WW1. By 1982, regular TV appearances and sold-out tours had cemented her status as one of the UK’s most popular female vocalists. Her ‘All for a Song’ album that year was certified platinum and went on to spend almost a year on the album chart. Barbara continues to play live locally - venues include the Kinema Ballroom, The Green Tree and the Belleville Hotel in Dunfermline plus a residency at the Rosyth Hotel.Mary Roos recorded a German version of the single entitled "Wenn Ich Dich Nicht Halten Kann" ("If I Cannot Hold You").
