Smok’s RPM and RPM2 coils have a minimum level line drawn on them, but you cannot see that through the dark plastic of the pod. That is something designers must have overlooked. The SMOK Nord 4 and Nord 5 have very similar pod system technology. The main difference is that the pods available for the Nord 4 will allow the user to use multiple different coils in the device with different pods. The Nord 5 features innovative child-proof technology to ensure safety, but this Nord 5 pod currently only works with the SMOK RPM 2 0.15 Ohm and 0.23 Ohm coils which are ideal for DTL vaping. Is Nord 4 better than Nord 2? The SMOK Nord 2 has been a very reliable vaping device over the years, and the Nord range has only improved with much-needed upgrades. The Nord 4 now features a 2000mAh battery which is a considerably noticeable improvement, making the Nord 4 a better device than the Nord 2.
If you are using a new coil for the first time, leave for 3-5 minutes after filling and before vaping, this allows for the e-liquid to reach the coil so that the coil does not burn. I started my test with the RPM 2 tank, which has a 0.16-Ohm RPM 2 meshed coil with my favourite VSAVI shortfill. The result – excellent vapour production and truly mouth-watering flavour. Cloud chasers could consider getting a Nord 4 to replace their bulky vape mods as it could do the job as good as box mods without a need to carry a large device. No cons here. Nord 4: The Nord 4 vape kit houses a 2000mAh battery which will roughly last for a day and a half of moderate vaping use before needing recharging. There are two pods, RPM and RPM2 each with different Smok Nord 4 coils. Not sure why this is necessary – both tanks could do the same job, just using different coils, which are not interchangeable between the two pods. The Nord 4 isn’t a complicated device at all. It’s very easy to use because there aren’t any modes other than the default wattage mode and there are very few button combinations. To turn it on or off, press the fire button five times. The 0.40Ω RPM coil is simply rated at 25W with no wattage range at all. This coil is designated by Smok as a mouth to lung coil, but we’ll get into this in the performance section. Because of the resistance rating this coil is also best if used with regular nicotine ejuices but it can probably manage low strength nicotine salt ejuices that are 20mg or less. The air-flow on the 0.4ohm coil with the airflow wheels half open was the perfect draw for me – something I expected after using the original SMOK Nord. It’s not too tight, but not too loose. Of course, it’s fully adjustable, so you can play around until you find the perfect draw for you. Both the SMOK Nord 4 and Nord 5 will also have two small buttons underneath the small OLED screen, allowing you to adjust the wattage level of the kit you are using to a higher or lower level of wattage. Your Nord 4 device is manufactured with precision so will not leak providing you use the product and parts correctly. After continuous use there will be a small amount of e liquid condensation which requires cleaning with a tissue occasionally. This is normal.Firing at up to 80w and featuring an innovative adjustable air flow ring on both sides of the device (apparently made to look like little steering wheels), this kit is capable of producing very decent clouds when used with a compatible sub-ohm coil such as the RPM2 0.16 ohm Coils.
Closing down the airflow and using a higher resistance coil such as the 1.2 ohm RPM Quartz Coil will also provide a very satisfying MTL (Mouth to Lung) vape experience which makes this versatile kit suitable for all types of vapers. Battery Life: It is important to consider a device’s expected battery life, most pod system devices have internal batteries that cannot be replaced but offer recharging capabilities until the end of their lifespan. Pod systems have smaller, less powerful batteries as they don't need to be as powerful as box mod kits to work with stronger nicotine salts and 50/50 vape juice blends. These pods are much bigger than the pods used for the Nord 2 and aren’t cross compatible. They also hold a bit more ejuice with their 4.5ml capacity. The pods have a light tint to them but seeing your ejuice level isn’t too difficult. The pods attach magnetically to the battery by way of 4 strong magnets, one on each corner of the pod. There’s no movement when the pod is inserted and it sits firmly in place.The Nord 4 no longer comes with a Nord pod or Nord coils. Instead, it now comes with an RPM pod and an RPM 2 pod with one coil for each. These pods are compatible with all coils in their respective lines; the RPM pod is compatible with all RPM coils, and the RPM 2 pod is compatible with all RPM 2 coils. You will be pleased to hear that just like the previous Nord X Kit the Nord 4 uses USB Type-C for it's charge port with 1.4A fast charging of the upgraded internal battery. Is this kit for you?
I used 70VG, regular nicotine ejuices with both of these coils. The RPM coil is recommended at 25W and that’s actually where it performs the best. I liked it the most right at 25W and didn’t feel the need to push up the wattage any higher. Flavor is good and vapor production is actually pretty decent. It produces warm vapor, not hot, and I found it nice to vape on with a 6mg ejuice. Next came the Nord X with dedicated buttons for adjusting the wattage up to an increased 60W, as well as Type-C charging. The Nord 5 has more improved airflow technology. The SMOK Nord 4 features a rotating airflow that can be twisted to open or close the airflow holes for more or less. The Nord 5 device now features a sliding button on the front of the device, allowing more or less airflow into the device, but this design is much more reliable and is easier to function. Nord 4(80W) adopts USB Type-C, which can provide reliable power and faster transfer speed to achieve smooth charging. Flavor output here is rather good and a lot of the notes come through in my ejuices but not all of them. This is a slightly above average coil for flavor but not an incredible coil by any means. New thinking brings unique styles to industrial design, which can inspire new sparks of innovation. The coil life is brilliant – around 3 weeks before I started to get muted flavor and the occasional burnt tasting hit. Pull out the rubber plug to reveal the filling port and insert the tip of your e-liquid bottle into the opening and fill. The Novo 4 is essentially a more lightweight and portable version of the Nord. It’s clearly geared towards MTL vapers. The pods hold 2 mL and take LP1 coils, which are different from the Nord coils. It also features an 800 mAh battery capacity and an air inlet ring for fine-tuning your draw. In this review, I will explain what the latest Nord and Novo offer in terms of performance.
