I'm not sure what the orange and blue chalky substances I got on my hands were. I didn't see or feel anywhere that the paint was coming off in my hands, and it doesn't smell or have an odd scent or smell big time like paint like some wooden things do that I've received. So who knows how my hands and the cardboard got those colors. But I love how brightly this thing is decorated! I noticed that the little cars on the bottom front part that turn around -- I think if they mean for you to match all three that doesn't quite work because they won't stay in the position of three matching steadily. The maze and everything else works great. Most of it comes pre-assembled, especially the stuff that looks hard to assemble. Refer to picture of disassembled parts, thats how it comes out of the box Make sure to align the hole with the white plastic screw at the bottom (refer to pic), otherwise the metal screw wont go in, and if you try with a power drill you will end up breaking through the wood (I made this mistake, its just very easy to align the hole for assembly instead). FYI there are only 4 of these plastic screws to attach the bottom board to the sides.
