Edgar® Nominees". TheEdgars.com. Archived from the original on 2 May 2007 . Retrieved 16 October 2011. Lol Enola tries to read Marx and legit just almost falls asleep. She calls it nonsense. Good for her.

Could it be a coincidence? I loved the clever use of flowers to convey messages and the inclusion of excerpts from Enola’s secret notebook at the end of each case. Nonsense!” At once the older brother puts a stop to such balderdash. “Preposterous! She is a female . Her intellect is inferior, she requires protection . . . there can be no comparison.”«As for the mystery, there was foreshadowing and clues cleverly planted along the way (you really have to focus on this book, or you might miss something!) Just when I thought I had it figured out, there was a twist which left me second-guessing my deduction skills *haha*

I haven’t met Enola’s mother yet but I love her already. She’s a suffragist who’s schooled her daughter in activities that will be useful, as opposed to those that will facilitate her transformation into a houseplant. So we finally meet John Watson. Bring out the party hats, y'all, it's my favourite character!!!! Except now he's sexist. Yep. For some reason, Nancy Springer has completely overlooked all the times canon Watson has called Holmes' opinions on women out. I guess all men in this version of history are sexists (no really, there isn't an unsexist man to be found in this book) But with regards to the book itself, while I loved the beautiful illustrations, there was just...really...not much thought put into the details of this book. I mean, they got some things right...but in all seriousness it's not really something I'd read again.a b Bhattacharya, Suryasarathi (2020-09-23). "Enola Holmes author Nancy Springer on her popular mystery series and the Netflix adaptation". Firstpost . Retrieved 2020-09-27. Just like the case of the Left-Handed Lady. Even though we only got to meet the girl near the end of the story, we got a heartbreaking image of her life. And therefore we also got a heartbreaking image of the life Enola would have if Mycroft would get what he wants. The contrast between the Enola we see and the life she knows she should have is huge. And therefore I'd say that this book is not so much about the case, but more a very well done history lesson. I read “ The Case of the Left-Handed Lady” to see if Nancy Springer's Enola Holmes series would improve with the second instalment.

Determined to find the missing porter, Enola travels to the rough part of London where the boys live and starts searching Aldgate Pump area for the missing boy. When she finds the missing buttons - but not the boy - she decides that drastic action is essential if she's to save the missing boy. Remember Enola being all like "I'm not religious cause I read Darwin and I'm smart"? And how the book has told us time and again that spirtual stuff is nonsense? Yeah, forget that, the villain hypnotises their victims. That's literally how he does his crimes. Empowered, capable, and smart . . . [with] an impactful message that you can do anything if you set your mind to it.”- -Millie Bobby Brown, Stranger Things At the end of each of the stories, there are excerpts of Enola’s secret notebook. This makes for an interesting addition as it reveals Enola’s thoughts and modi operandi through her doodles. Enola runs away and decides the best place to hide out from the two in under their noses in London. Before she leaves for London, she discovers that her mother has left her a notebook with secret codes about flowers and also a considerable amount of money; hidden away from the allowances that Mycroft had been providing. urn:lcp:caseoflefthanded0000spri:epub:52f177f3-7d23-4109-842e-ac02cf896708 Foldoutcount 0 Identifier caseoflefthanded0000spri Identifier-ark ark:/13960/t3mx2n28w Invoice 1652 Isbn 9780142411902

It is in bad taste for people to parade their insolent starvation in the face of the rich and trading portions of the town. They should have starved in their garrets. About the religion thing......... Can we please stop. Just.... Stop. The villain mentions "the opiod (or opium, can't remember) of the people". Some communist leader coined this phrase. It's about religion: he said religion was useful only in that it made the masses feel good. The villain then continues speeching and takes a passage out of context from - I kid you not - All Things Bright and Beautiful to accuse God of making certain people dirt poor and others filthy rich and not caring. Enola agrees with him, thinking that even evil people can be right. So yeah. God's entire character is based off of a few lines from a hymn. I enjoyed the watercolour illustrations, which felt even more appropriate when I learned that’s the medium Enola’s mother uses. Elocuente, me gustó. This goes against Enola’s sensibilities and those of her currently absent mother, so before she embarks on the very ladylike occupation of learning how to be a “houseplant”, Enola absconds to London. Smart girl, our Enola.Considering this graphic novel was an adaptation of a mystery series it was quite surprising to find the mysteries were weak. In particular, the second mystery had clues that didn’t even add up to the final answer so the fact that protagonist, Enola, figured out the mystery was a blundering coincidence. Enola tries to find Lady Cecily Alistair, who disappeared from her bedroom. Enola, after disguising herself, talks to Lady Cecily's family, who think she has run off with the son of a tradesman. Enola finds some strange paintings that make her doubt that notion, and goes to find their daughter.
