About this deal

In a move welcomed by many fans (well this fan at least) The Wand Company have released the 10th Doctor’s Sonic Screwdriver as a universal remote control. Last year’s 11th Doctor sonic was an impressive release, giving you not just a programmable IR remote, but also a solid feeling replica of Matt Smith’s sonic screwdriver. This year sees the release of David Tennant’s Sonic, a replica based on 3D scanning the actual sonic used in the TV show. The unlicensed fan fiction novel Time's Champion speculates that the Sixth Doctor has re-built the sonic screwdriver. [ citation needed] He used a similar device in The Nightmare Fair, a script which was never produced for television but has been adapted twice. Throughout the programme, there have been many different versions of the sonic screwdriver, as with subsequent Doctors the design of it was changed. It has also been destroyed on a number of occasions, thus leading to the introduction of the next model. Not all iterations of the Doctor have used the sonic screwdriver on screen; the Fifth Doctor in fact opted not to replace his after it was destroyed in " The Visitation". Toys and Games". The real prop also has a protruding button which Matt Smith uses to make the tip glow. The Sonic Screwdriver URC does not have this button, because as it is never shown in the TV show we did not think that it was intended to be part of the overall look of the device. There is no end cap with secret button

Underground Toys have released the War Doctor's sonic screwdriver; titled "The Other Doctor's Sonic Screwdriver", it was released in the UK in November/December 2013 [23] [ bettersourceneeded] and in the US January 2014. In " Hell Bent", the TARDIS gives the Doctor a brand new sonic screwdriver. The new screwdriver has a TARDIS-blue shaft with gold and silver highlights. The upper half is a rectangular light grid that, when switched on, has four different functions: green light with low-pitched sound, blue light with high-pitched sound, green lights that pulse with a pulsing sound, and a blue light chasing pattern with a pulsing sound. The new sonic screwdriver is meant to represent the TARDIS. The Doctor first uses it in "The Husbands of River Song" (although he also employs the sonic sunglasses earlier in the episode). The new screwdriver has seen use in the spin-off show Class, where the Doctor increases the voltage of flood lights to expel the Shadow Kin and partially close a rift in space-time. He is shown to have working copies of every version of the Sonic Screwdriver ever seen before in a cup on his desk in "The Pilot." Nardole uses the Fifth Doctor's version when sealing bulkhead doors to keep out Daleks later in the episode. ( TV: The Wedding of River Song) A version of this screwdriver was kept in the Twelfth Doctor's office at St Luke's University. ( TV: The Pilot)

After the loss of his previous model, the TARDIS gifted the Eleventh Doctor with a redesigned sonic screwdriver. Differing radically from the last screwdriver, with its extendible "claws" and green crystalline emitter resembling the inner structure of the TARDIS's new time rotor, it also had copper plating similar to the new control room. ( TV: The Eleventh Hour) A psychic interface allowed its user to point it at a target and think of the function they wanted. ( TV: Let's Kill Hitler, Death in Heaven) Having been mentioned to be more than sonic, ( TV: Night Terrors) this screwdriver also shot beams of green energy in the shape of sonic waves. ( TV: Day of the Moon, Closing Time) By at least the time of the Doctor's thirteenth regeneration, it had a voice-activation feature, which the Doctor forgot about when he needed it. ( TV: Deep Breath) It had a charge that could last centuries; it once lasted 300 years before the Doctor could charge it in the TARDIS. ( TV: The Time of the Doctor) In the 1965 episode Trap of Steel, the Doctor uses an apparently ordinary screwdriver to examine the metal of the Drahvin spaceship and other tasks. Ahead of the 50th anniversary special, a mini-episode entitled " The Night of the Doctor" (2013) was produced in which the Eighth Doctor uses the sonic screwdriver twice. The Doctor uses his telescopic screwdriver previously seen in the TV movie, rather than his updated steampunk version which had been used in numerous Big Finish audio dramas.
