About this deal

The newest instalment in the book series, released in September 2022, The Rising Tide follows a group of friends who journey to Holy Island to celebrate their friendship. After one of them is found hanged, Vera is called in to help get to the bottom of things.

Although the third person narrative predominantly focuses on Vera and her internal monologue, I really appreciated the sections where the focus switched to DS Joe Ashworth and DC Holly Clarke to hear things from their perspective, in regard to their own feelings and how they view each other and Vera! DS Ashworth is a local lad whom Vera feels she knows where she stands with, certainly more so than with Holly. Joe has a young family and according to Vera he is a 'soft touch' who combines a family life with his work and a young toddler disturbing his sleep and sending him in bleary eyed to Vera, much to her chagrin! DC Holly Clarke is younger and more uptight with reservations as to whether her personality suits the work of a detective and whether she is cut out for the job. She is often judgemental and a little reserved when she engages with Vera , and there is an impression that she does not feel worthy of her place on the team. Between Holly and Joe a begrudging acceptance that they both vie for Vera's praise is barely concealed and they both make valuable contributions to the team and work well alongside a commanding DI Stanhope! I also enjoyed the author’s descriptions of homes, their interiors, and a sort of running commentary on what the gardens were like and whether or not they were weeded. Food and caffeine sources also get frequent mention, keeping the reader amused. Vera investigates the death of a 22-year-old man who was involved in a hit-and-run in the remote Northumberland Valley. This novel lends its plot to series six, episode three. The Seagull Noof Ousellam makes his debut as new team member DC Hicham Cherradi, effectively replacing Bethany Whelan whom was written out two stories before.Mod Sheila wrote: "I've got a question about how this discussion works. Do we read a certain # of chapters by a certain date and then comment with spoilers or what? From Ann Cleeves— New York Times bestselling and award-winning author of the Vera and Shetland series, both of which are hit TV shows—comes The Moth Catcher. She added: "There is such a variety of locations in the area. From places like Corbridge in the Tyne Valley to the Northumberland coastline and many other varied locations. I also like working in the vibrant city of Newcastle which was the main venue for Sally Abbot’s “For The Grace of God”. Series 11 locations The bus featured in this episode of Vera on a service to Bebington is The Eden's Leyland Leopard, which was new in 1976. Making its appearance as a vehicle still in service in this episode somewhat strange. The bus itself has been painstakingly restored to its former glory.

Vera is a British crime drama series based on the Vera Stanhope series of novels by Ann Cleeves. First broadcast on ITV on 1 May 2011, it stars Brenda Blethyn as the principal character, Detective Chief Inspector Vera Stanhope. DCI Vera Stanhope is called to a remote lighthouse where a body has been discovered lashed to a sailboat. Immediately setting about her investigation, Vera soon discovers that the body is local council enforcement officer and experienced amateur sailor Frank Channing. A family man, with strong friendships, who was well respected at work, surely this really was just an accident? However, it's not long before Vera discovers evidence suggesting foul play. Vera and her team piece together Frank’s final days and soon discover that his life wasn’t all plain sailing. With huge swathes of Northumberland already aired on-screen during the drama's lengthy run, filming expanded over the years across the region, with more spots around Durham and Newcastle have been playing a role.A woman is found murdered in a remote cottage in the Northumberland countryside. This book was adapted for screen in series one, episode three. Telling Tales

Vera and her team investigate the death of a young man dredged up from a slurry pit. Vera discovers the victim was a traveller who had left his camp following a row with his parents about his being gay. Vera locates the victim's camper van, which contains a wad of notes, suggesting the victim was involved in something illegal. However, it is a deaf little boy who presents Vera with the solution to the case. The judging panel consisted of Geoff Bradley (non-voting Chair), Lyn Brown MP (a committee member on the London Libraries service), Frances Gray (an academic who writes about and teaches courses on modern crime fiction), Heather O'Donoghue (academic, linguist, crime fiction reviewer for The Times Literary Supplement, and keen reader of all crime fiction) and Barry Forshaw (reviewer and editor of Crime Time magazine).Weekly Top 10 Programmes: ITV HD w/e 3 June 2012". Broadcasters' Audience Research Board . Retrieved 12 June 2012. On the night of a huge storm, Vera finds an abandoned car with a baby inside. Forced to seek refuge, she heads to the Stanhope ancestral home where she is reunited with her estranged family. Vera has to unravel the circumstances of self-styled entrepreneur Freddie Gill's death when his body is found by bailiffs attempting to repossess his house. And Brenda has since revealed that scenes were also shot on Holy Island, with popular pub The Ship Inn changing its name to play a key role in the plot. When the dead body of the young ecologist is found in a ditch by a country lane, DI Vera Stanhope is called to the scene. When she and her sergeant Joe Ashworth go to the victim's flat to search for clues, Vera stumbles upon a second body. It is that of the former teacher. What could possibly have led to the murder of these two mild-mannered, inoffensive men? Could it have anything to do with their mutual interest in moths?
