Double Oak is the third core expression in the Writers’ Tears range which includes the Copper Pot and Cask Strength versions. It is the 14 th expression in the wider Walsh Whiskey portfolio, including the extended Writers’ Tears and The Irishman ranges.

When cask-hunting, we look for, not just those of the highest wood quality and barrel structure but, most importantly, the ones that have been seasoned with exceptional liquid. Our journey has led us to:Writers’ Tears Double Oak, is a blend of the two premium whiskey styles aged in two types of wood – American and French Oak. It is triple-distilled, non-chill filtered and bottled at 46% ABV. The new expression is made possible by a close collaboration between the Walsh family in Ireland’s County Carlow and the Legaret family in Cognac, France. Each and every Member must be of legal drinking age in its country of residence to be allowed to use the Service. If no such law exists in a Member’s country of residence, the Member has to be over 21 years old to use the Service. th MAY, 2019 – Carlow, Ireland: Walsh Whiskey has created a new core expression for it’s Writers’ Tears range which focuses on exploring the rarest of whiskey blends first made popular in 18 th century Ireland – aged Single Pot Still and Single Malt premium whiskeys. Writers’ Tears is an Irish whiskey that comes from a blend of single pot still and single malt Irish whiskies – making it relatively unique in the burgeoning Irish whisky scene. Many would consider pot still the definitive Irish style, but with the addition of single malt, and no grain whiskies present, Writers’ Tears is really trying to stand out. The mashbill consists of 60% malted and 40% un-malted barley – with the un-malted component historically being a hallmark of Irish whiskies. This whiskey remains non-age stated and is sourced from an unnamed Irish distillery and then blended and bottled by Walsh Whiskey Distillery in Dublin. Writer’s Tears Irish Whiskey is remarkable. I was not expecting to like a 40%, young, chill-filtered whiskey as much as I am. The blend of Irish Single Malt and Irish Single Pot Still creates a richness and depth that blows past my expectations and has me sitting here smiling like an idiot while typing this up and sipping on a glass.

On the nose: Slightly floral but very fruity – orchard fruit abundant, apples, a hint of peach and loads of stewed pears. Vanilla, white grape too. Some spice builds with cinnamon and nutmeg along with some caramel sweetness. You are responsible for all activities through your account. It was enjoyed by many of the great Irish writers of the day… of course less for its inspirational qualities than its full-bodied, flavoursome taste and creamy texture! It was said that they enjoyed it so much, that when they cried, their tears were of whiskey. In the mouth: Quite a chocolate note on arrival then stone fruit. Plum, peach and then the white grape again. Some citrus zest with mild baking spice, oak tannins and a touch of cask char.
