About this deal

The width of tyre you can use on your bike depends in part on your wheels – each wheel is designed to accept tyres up to a maximum width. Wider tyres are preferred by a lot of riders because they offer more traction and make it easier to roll over obstacles. That said, as your tyres get wider, you’ll add rolling resistance to your bike and make it harder to accelerate. In general, trail and downhill mountain bikes use tyres between 2.25-2.5 inches. Cross country bikes typically use narrower tyres – 1.9-2.25 inches – to allow them to move faster and climb hills more efficiently. Tyre Treads

Tubeless tyres don’t have a tube – the tyre seals against your wheel’s rim for an airtight fit. The advantages to tubeless tyres are that they don’t flat as frequently and allow you to ride at lower tyre pressures, which improve traction. However, flats on a tubeless tyre can be very difficult to fix on the trail. Clincher tyres are the most common type of mountain bike tyre. They use a bead to snap onto your wheel, which makes it easy to change a tube out on the trail. Plus, since they’re so common, it’s easy to find many different types of clincher tyres. Mountain bikes need rugged, durable tyres that are built to withstand the toughest conditions and still provide exceptional performance at all times. That’s exactly what you’ll find at Bike Addict, as our range of 27.5 MTB tyres is manufactured by the world’s leading cycling brands.

Folding tyres are a lot like clincher tyres, but the bead isn’t quite as rigid. Folding tyres make great spares since they can be easily stored in a small bike bag for your ride.

In 2018, WTB added the 2.8” option to the Vigilante family, offering a wider format to the same revised tread pattern and rubber compounds used in the entire lineup. Both the 29” and 27.5 x 2.8” Vigilante use WTB’s TriTec Compound, which simply refers to three distinct rubber densities used throughout the tread. Softer compounds are used on the surface of the tread for grip, hard compounds throughout the base of the tread provide support, and a medium compound down the centerline of the tire provides a mix of rolling speed and grip.

Based on its Pinch Protection technology, which absorbs the energy from pinch flats and its Gravity Shield casing from the Enduro competition range. New generations of top-of-the-range rubbers that give better rolling strength and lower energy consumptions. Side lugs on the edges of your tyres are ideal for cornering. When you angle the bike to take a sharp turn, side lugs will make sure you still have enough traction to prevent sliding out. The bumps and knobs on the outside of your tyres – known as lugs – play a huge role in determining how much grip your wheels will get on different types of terrain. Optimal grip with its lateral and central rubbers designed to optimise motricity, even on climbs, and transmit the bike's full power.

When looking to buy new bicycle tyres, you will need to know the size of the wheel, with mountain bikes generally requiring 27.5” bike tyres or the slightly larger 29” tyre. Road bikes on the other hand require 700c bike tyres, such as the Continental Grand Prix or Gatorskin. Thankfully, this offering from Maxxis, along with those from Terravail, brings that dream to a more reasonable price point. I’m very happy that the industry finally heard me and my friends ranting about the need for a 27.5+ tire with tan sidewalls. An inner layer and central rubber improve performance and rolling strength while reducing energy consumption. As long as you mount them on a reasonable rim width (Bontrager recommend a 35mm as a good starting point) they don’t ricochet off big landings or square edge wallops like a lot of high-volume sub-kilo tyres do.
