About this deal

La Plante is set to release her new Anna Travis book, Wrongful Death, this year. In this book, Travis and Langton are re-opening an old case that was thought to be a suicide.

Anna Travis is seemingly incapable of learning a lesson. She is asked no less than 412 times to not go off doing her own secret investigations on the case, but she still does it a 413th time. In the vast majority of instances, there was really no reason not to tell the rest of her team. I really enjoy the relationship of both characters and now, thanks to the TV dramas I can picture them too !! The main character was so annoying and inept at her job. Really, you're going on an international trip for work and you're not going to ask about arrangements? You're just going to hire a random taxi driver and tell him you're investigating a murder? I feel like she spent more time being insecure about her appearance and creepily caressing her dad's picture every night before bed than she did actually working the case...

While this book is an entertaining, hard-pounding mystery, it just isn't as good as the previous books in the Anna Travis series. LaPlante's skill as a writer is still apparent here -- the case is woven together in a very clever way; the connections between people and evidence slowly come together to explain the case -- but it takes far too long to bring these connections together, which severely brings the pace down. While LaPlante's descriptions are phenomenally specific and help move the reader between plot points and through the mystery, this detail becomes too much several times throughout the novel and seems to distract from the plot more than add to it.

Deadly Intent is the fourth book in the police-heavy mystery-thriller Anna Travis series by British author Lynda LaPlante. Much like previous novels in the series, Deadly Intent is well-researched, carefully crafted, and explores the fascinating psyche of (and complex) title character. In 1994, she created her own television production company, La Plante Productions, where she wrote and produced the sequel to Widows. DEADLY INTENT is the fourth book in the Anna Travis series, made up of ABOVE SUSPICION, THE RED DAHLIA and CLEAN CUT. It's been a series which I've really enjoyed... up until this book, which I have to say disappointed. Lynda La Plante’s novels were turned into a TV show in 2009. The TV show was called Above Suspicion, after her first novel. The TV show is based on the books, which are about DC Anna Travis. Series One I started with the Anna Travis books from the very beginning. Anna was very young, new to the homicide department. She was also a little on the shy side, not very concerned about her looks, her dress. And she has a crush on her supervisor/mentor James Langton. After the body of Felicity Turner, another of Amanda's old flatmates, is dragged from the river, the remaining college contemporary, Jeanie Bale, is brought in. She admits to having Amanda's diary, which she was planning to sell to Mr Delaney for five thousand pounds. The diary also reveals that Lester James, the youngest of the three brothers who acted as Amanda's drivers, was also her lover and pusher. I also liked the fact that this story didn't have a particularly happy ending. Life is like that, and I think La Plante does a good job in keeping her stories real. After leaving school, Lynda La Plante briefly worked as a trainee at a fashion house before moving to London to pursue an acting career. She landed a role in a touring production of the musical Cabaret and later worked as a nightclub hostess to make ends meet. In the early 1970s, she turned to writing, penning episodes of popular British television shows like Z-Cars and The Sweeney. Each book (this one is # 9) follows cases, some cold, some not. Anna has to prove herself to the team and she does so brilliantly. She sees things that others do not ... she's like a professional problem solver.
