About this deal

The EYFS only applies to schools and early years providers in England. There are different early years standards in Scotland and early years standards in Wales. Areas of learning The prime areas lay the foundations upon which all further learning can develop. The prime areas are also extremely important for ‘igniting children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning, forming relationships and thriving’, as stated in the statutory framework for the early years foundation stage. You can use them in separate dedicated displays to share the EYFS ELG statements for each specific area of learning, or you can use them in a general display about the Early Years Goals.

Strong, warm and supportive relationships with adults enable children to learn how to understand their own feelings and those of others. Each of the four Specific Areas in EYFS is divided into further 'subsections' and have an individual 'Early Learning Goal' (ELG). These Early Learning Goals are approached as children prepare to transition to KS1 and use the skills and attributes learned throughout the Early Years Foundation Stage to support children in transitioning to the National Curriculum. They may not hit every goal before they move on to their next stage, as children will develop at their own pace.
