About this deal

There are 4 main types of roof bars and they differ in the way that they attach to the car. Different cars use different methods of attachment. Look for powder coated or galvanized steel that resists rust and corrosion. Aircraft-grade aluminum is also highly durable. Roof bars for cars with solid roof rails: Again, most commonly found on estate cars the 'solid' roof rail pictured below is a more modern version of the raised roof rail. They tend to be found on cars from roughly 2006 onwards and are flush with the car roof, ie there's no gap between the roof and rail.

Of all the options, solid roof rails are the most durable since there is no gap between the car and the rail. In theory, that means they can handle increased weight (although your car's roof might not). But as for functionality, they are not really that different from any type of rail, but they do have a sleek design which means you’ll often find them on today’s modern cars. Raised roof rails have a slimmer profile and are rails that have a space between them and the car. These aren’t as popular these days, but you can still find them on wagons. In terms of functionality, they work using the same principles as other roof rails. For more information about how to find the right roof bars for you, visit our buyer’s guide.
