About this deal

Selena is a widow and in dire straits. Her family is poor and she wants to give her siblings the freedom she did not have. But for that she would need to be raising a ducal heir, and she is not. Selena was played with this cool, calm voice and it fit her so well. She was the quintessential Duchess. I also liked that she had actually not had a bad marriage, no her husband had been kind, but they had been friends only. That is why her choices had me wondering, and I did not know what route I wanted her to take. For once I was not sure how this would end, I mean it is romance so I knew they would end up together but how? If you're going to Hercules, St Agnes, The Old Potting Shed orPip and Pip's Cabin, keep driving past the gate and go around the corner. Carry on a little further down the road, and on your left you'll see the second entrance, signposted Spring Park. Drive past the house and signs will direct to your parking spaces. The duke chases Georgiana into her bedroom and pins her beneath him; we then hear the sounds of him raping her. Afterwards, he says, “Give me a son. Until then, stay here and do as I say.” This rape results in the pregnancy that finally yields a boy for the duke. Aiden made my heart ache in the best way. So many of Lorraine Heath’s novels give me this bittersweet feeling, because she really does put her characters through desolation and despair before the HEA. This one was no different, and Aiden’s mental anguish—not to mention his devotion to Selena—just made me want to hug him and make everything better. And somehow his suffering made him all the more compelling. This emphasis on the insignificance of rank in the face of death and tragedy is important because it shows the true depths of the difference between the Duchess and her evil brothers. They have nothing but their rank and their associated power, and so when they are faced with death, they die without courage and “leave no more fame behind ‘em than” (5.5.113) a footprint in snow exposed to the sun. The Duchess, on the other hand, by dying so nobly, leaves the mark of the her spirit behind, which ultimately allows for hope at the end in the form of her surviving son, the true “light.”

The moment she entered his club, Aiden Trewlove noticed her. He watched her watching him, curious about her reason for being there and to see the face behind the mask she wear. Owner of the Elysium Club who caters to women, Aiden will charm and he might flirt, but he never mix business with pleasure. And after seeing how dangerous love can be, he swore to never allow any woman to capture his heart. The Owner reserves the right to sue the guest for any loss, damage or injury caused to the Owner, the Property or to other guests and/or their property. As Agent, we will have no liability to you in these circumstances. Like many of Ms. Heath’s stories, the book offers a solid plot with an interesting moral dilemma. What at first seems to be a selfless act on Selena’s part (to aid her younger sisters) can easily be viewed as selfish when taking into account the sacrifice Aiden must make in not claiming his child. I found myself of two minds throughout the story and ended up mad at Selena and Aiden’s choices. As in Ms. Heath’s The Earl Takes All, some readers will be put off by the decisions the characters make.

Did this installment live up to expectations? In one way it did - I fell even deeper in love with Aiden Trewlove who had such an inate goodness, a sweet decency that just pulled at my heartstrings. At the same time he was sexy and very physical which provided some really hot scenes throughout this story. I loved his protective sense and the love he had for his family was heart-warming. Her Grace, Selena, Duchess of Lushing, has been recently widowed. Hers was an arranged marriage, but her husband was a good man and while she wasn’t in love with him, she did love him and is genuinely grieving for him. Or she would be, if she had the time to grieve, but she doesn’t, due to another pressing concern. She and Lushing have no children and he came from a family that was not only short-lived, but also not prolific when it came to procreation. Thus, there are no male heirs to his title or the wealth that goes with it and everything will pass to the crown, leaving Selena with a comfortable income, but not one comfortable enough to enable her to ensure her sisters make good matches. Her brother, the Earl of Camberley, spends most of his time and money gaming and living the high life, despite the parlous state of the family finances, so there will be no help for her sisters coming from that quarter. But Camberley comes up with an incredibly risky plan. If Selena can bear a child within ten months of her husband’s death, he or she will be recognised as Lushing’s legitimate heir. If the baby is a boy, he’ll become the next duke, it it’s a girl, the title will pass into escheat, but the entailment is constructed in such a way as to allow a female to inherit the wealth and lands of the dukedom and will thus retain an elevated position in society. Of course, Joan’s career took off in a big way when she landed the role of the scheming and powerful Alexis Carrington in Eighties soap Dynasty. So convincing was she that she’s been inextricably associated with the shoulder-pad wearing diva ever since. ‘People enjoy this fantasy that I am a super-bitch because of Alexis,’ she says. ‘I think it’s utterly ridiculous that powerful, resilient women are portrayed as dangerous, whereas in my experience it’s the predatory men who are the real threat.’

The couple bought the bed from a firm called Healthbeds based in Rotherham, South Yorkshire and will now use it in their new home at Kensington Palace in London. Bosola’s death speech does little to untangle this complexity. Though almost all of the evil he has done has been motivated purely by selfishness, he here reveals no evidence of selfishness. Though he is facing the physical “pain” of death, he does not regret avenging the Duchess and Antonio, for it is “no harm” “to die/In so good a quarrel.” Though he himself was directly responsible for much of their misfortune, he has taken their side as one worthy of "good" so happily that he faces his own death without care. The death count in the play has reached its peak when Delio speaks these lines, and they provide the final--and practically only--note of hope in the play. Though throughout the play, good and evil characters alike are murdered with relative ease while the evil characters maintain most of the control, Delio’s distinction between what remains of each shows that the play’s message is not nearly as bleak as that which Bosola expresses in his death speech. It took a while for Selena, widowed Duchess of Lushing's, purpose in coming to the Elysium Club to be revealed so I'll just "spoil" it here. (It's barely a spoiler.) Selena's husband just died and to secure the lands, the manor house, the money to provide for her siblings, she needs to have his son. However, in all the years she's been married to him, they never produced any offspring. She knows she still hasn't conceived his child when he dies, so she needs to find a man to provide her with that son she can pass off as the late duke's. She chooses Aiden Trewlove. To be honest, it would have been easier for her to have chosen someone else, someone a little less principled, probably someone who wasn't a bastard himself.

This book Selena is a recent window and comes to Aiden Trewlove's notorious club. She's masked and on a questionable mission. They are drawn to each other, and Aiden is more than willing to break his own rules and satisfy her deilsires. They find themselves trying to make a deal with each other and don't realize they can't keep their hearts out of it... The plot was absolutely fine, it was the execution that didn't completely work and if it hadn't been for the above mentioned consent issue I had this would have been my favorite in this series. However, let's be real, this is Lorraine Heath and she managed to turn around the whole thing in the last quarter of the story. Next up is Fancy and I'm salivating for Beast's story! Can't wait! Throughout the play, the Duchess’s own good nature seems to blind her to the true depths of brothers' evil. Not long after this speech, she tells Antonio in regards to them: “All discord, without this circumference,/Is only to be pitied, and not feared” (1.1.459-60). This analysis proves to be very wrong indeed. But in this speech, she admits that this is a “dangerous venture,” and goes so far as to compare it to war, showing the audience that it is not only her ignorance of the true danger of her marriage that leads her into it. Her love for Antonio is such that she proceeds even knowing what could be at stake. Getty ImagesIn the event that a court finds that a condition in these Agency Terms & Conditions is illegal or void, the illegal or void provision will be severed from the remainder of the Agency Terms & Conditions, which will continue to be valid and have full force and effect. The naked sword, however, coming so close to her mention of her “humorous kindred,” also has an ominous note, and foreshadows the violence that will later separate them from each other. This imagery has special resonance since the Duchess just referred to their marriage as “this sacred Gordian,” which alludes to the Gordian knot that could not be untied--instead, Alexander cut it with his sword. In this case, neither the knot nor the Duchess and Antonio will be able to stay whole in the face of violence, no matter how intricately they are bound. Turn left here (signposted Rezare). Be careful as there are two turnings - you need to make sure you take the first one. Drive up the narrow road for about 1/2 a mile until you reach the village of Rezare. Georgiana learns that she has one purpose in the marriage: to provide a male heir. So the birth of two girls (and two stillborn boys) only fuels the duke’s contempt for his witty wife. She’d longed for a man of “patience, determination and resolution.” She gets instead a stonehearted brute who isn’t “interested in anything.” Except, she says, his dogs—and virtually every other woman he can get his hands on. I absolutely LOVED that the villain got his just desserts! It was the absolute perfect punishment for him. I also loved the Countess of Elverton – although you see little of her until toward the end of the book. I think she might be one of my favorite people in the entire series just for her one small role.
