It washed all the paint off. On the day of his resurrection, Jesus Christ made at least five appearances. Mark's Gospel says the first person to see him was Mary Magdalene. Jesus also appeared to Peter, to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus, and later that day to all of the disciples except Thomas, while they were gathered in a house for prayer. Personally, I like the character and detail in them and the fact they were hand made and have history. I also love how timeless they are. Luke's Gospel says that"his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground" (Luke 22:44, ESV). On Palm Sunday, Jesus and his disciples spent the night in Bethany, a town about two miles east of Jerusalem. This is where Lazarus, whom Jesus had raised from the dead, and his two sisters, Mary and Martha,lived. They were close friends of Jesus, and probably hosted Him and His disciples during their final days in Jerusalem. Don't be afraid! I know you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He isn't here! He is risen from the dead, just as he said would happen." (Matthew 28:5-6, NLT) An encouraging poem about two boxes tells us how God would have us deal with blessings and sorrows.

Holy Week

Sunday lunch? Invariably a roast of some sort with Yorkshire puddings and a glass of wine. A classic English lunch. My wife and I don’t cook it, we have help. We eat at 1.15pm and quite frequently have guests. We see a lot of our children and our nine grandchildren, – it could be them or it could be friends from the worlds of gardening or politics. (John 19: 39-40, NLT) A few minutes before the church services started, the townspeople were sitting in their pews and talking. Suddenly, Satan appeared at the front of the church. Everyone started screaming and running for the front entrance, trampling each other in a frantic effort to get away from evil incarnate. Soon everyone had exited the church except for one elderly gentleman who sat calmly in his pew without moving, seeming oblivious to the fact that God's ultimate enemy was in his presence. So Satan walked up to the old man and said, “Don't you know who I am?”

The Episcopalians tried a much more unique path by setting out pans of whiskey around their church in an effort to kill the squirrels with alcohol poisoning. They sadly learned how much damage a band of drunk squirrels can do. While his physical body lay in the tomb, Jesus Christ paid the penalty for sin by offering the perfect, spotless sacrifice. He conquered death, both spiritually and physically, securing our eternal salvation: We as Christians believe that an afterlife so much better than this life exists, but can we act like it when a loved one dies? It can be difficult.
