Brake fluid can be yellow, brown or transparent. It feels slightly oily but doesn’t tend to have much of a smell. If this fluid is leaking, you may start to experience trouble with the brakes. For that reason alone, it’s important to make sure that the reservoir is filled at all times.

Nipple discharge is any fluid that comes out of your nipple, and is often a normal part of breast function. Many women - especially when squeezing their nipple - will see small amounts of fluid seeping out, which can be very alarming at first. As a car owner, a puddle of strange liquid leaking from the car can be concerning. It’s not always cause for panic and if you do notice a liquid leaking from your car when parked, it is important to identify the source of the leak to determine the best course of action. Depending on the type of liquid, the leak could be something as simple as a loose connection or something more serious, like an oil or coolant leak. Sometimes, I may need to perform a small surgical procedure under general or local anaesthetic to remove small bits of tissue for further investigation.
If the fluid leaking is green or yellow in colour, it’s possible it is coolant or antifreeze. However, coolant comes in other colours such as blue, pink, purple and even orange. Different manufacturers recommend different ones – for example, most Honda cars will have a blueish-coloured coolant. With such a host of different coolant variants, it can be hard to pinpoint the type of fluid leak, however, another way to identify if it is coolant is to observe the smell (from a safe distance). If it has a sweetish smell it is likely a toxic chemical called ethylene glycol. A fuel leak is quite distinctive in nature – if it reminds you of the smell when filling up fuel at the station then it is likely petrol or diesel. Petrol and diesel are usually amber or clear but in certain lights, it can appear reflective and ‘multicoloured’. With a front-wheel drive car, leaking fluid often drips from the axle seals. On the other hand, the rear-wheel drive car is susceptible to leaks from the output shaft seal.

The treatment depends on the findings. Most benign cases don’t need any treatment as most will clear up alone. The discharge can come in a variety of colours and appear at any time. The colour and consistency of the discharge, however, may give you a clue as to what may be causing it. Before you begin any of these treatments, it’s a good idea to consult with your doctor. If you have had earwax buildup problems in the past, your doctor may want to examine your ears and rule out issues that may be causing the unusual buildup. Your doctor may also want to inspect your eardrum to make sure an earwax buildup has not perforated or punctured your eardrum. Doctor treatments It’s not always easy to determine the color of the power steering fluid. Some manufacturers use transmission fluid, while others have their own brand, such as Honda, whose fluid is light amber-colored. Some power steering fluids also smell similar to burnt cooking oil.
