About this deal

counters is the primary theme of Coven Counters, and it can often feel like a tough strategy to effectively upgrade, thanks to pricey staples like Doubling Season. However, there’s a lot you can do to improve your counter synergies without breaking the bank! Jake and Joel are comedians living in Los Angeles and Boston, respectively, with a passion for Magic: the Gathering and all things Standard, EDH, Finance, & MTG Arena. Sono 3 segnalini, che faccio? Lascio?" "Sono 3 segnalini, che faccio? Lascio?" "Sono 3 segnalini, che faccio? Lascio?" Again, either of these commanders are technically humans, but Kyler is going to be the one with the most synergy with the strategy. Giving himself a +1/+1 counter whenever a human enters is better than anything Leinore does with Humans.

Coven Counters - Leinore, Autumn Sovereign (PreCon) Coven Counters - Leinore, Autumn Sovereign (PreCon) Coven Counters - Leinore, Autumn Sovereign (PreCon) The early benefit of the +1/+1 tokens is underlined by Abzan Falconer and Ainok Bond-Kin, which offer us first strike and flying ability. Obviously, this is a very short list, but maybe the secret to making Nobles work is to use cards that change creatures’ creature types. Here is another short list of cards that can do that in green and white:Custodi Soulbinders and Verdurous Gearhulk represent raw stats, and will ensure that Coven Counters always controls the biggest creature. This is potentially big, a bit pricy but you’ll almost always get value for blowing up the most obnoxious stax or powerful artifact on the board. Anything that doesn’t compliment either the main game plan or bolster any of the pillars of the upgrade will be replaced by something better suited. +1/+1 Counters

Coven Counters is all about one of Midnight Hunt’s new set mechanics: coven. Cards with coven grant you a bonus ability if you control three or more creatures with different powers. With this in mind you’ll want to run as many creatures as possible to maximize your chances of having coven active at any given time. Lost Caverns of Ixalan Spoilers — October 24 | Quintorius Planeswalker, New Cascade and Token Tripling!, The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth Spoilers — June 6 | Legendary Kraken, Orzhov Spirit Commander,Disclaimer: the upgrades are at the bottom of the article, so scroll all the way down if that's the only thing you're here for. The rest of the article analyzes the precon and shows you how I chose my upgrades. The new version has a bunch of elves for ramp, especially elves like Gyre Sage who keep getting bigger and keep tapping for more mana as they get bigger, letting you lay down truly huge threatening hydra creatures. Cards like Shalai, Voice of Plenty and Leyline of Abundance can get truly out of hand this way. If you can pay 6 mana to give all your creatures +1/+1 but that makes several of your elves suddenly tap for 1 more mana, you can keep doing it every turn. Hydras that have 4 or 5 counters are them are far more rewarding to cast Biogenic Upgrade on. Your basic gameplan here is very basic: Ramp Elves into more elves, start dropping huge hydras, and start swinging. You’ve got some instants mostly to protect your creatures from board clear or targeted removal. So don’t tap out entirely. card draw; Leinore, Autumn Sovereign, Wall of Mourning, Inspiring Call, Shamanic Revelation, Lifecrafter's Bestiary

And lastly, I don’t want these articles to be limited by a budget restriction. I know that not everyone has access to more expensive cards, but I want to make sure I include the expensive ones, in case their abilities might inspire you in some way. If they are available, I will try to point out cheaper cards with similar abilities. Both can be combined with the also included Unbreakable Formation or Inspiring Call, which makes its own creatures indestructible and additionally puts +1/+1 tokens on them when played in its own main phase. Straight out of the gate, I’d replace Somberwald Beastmaster and Enduring Scalelord with Hamza, Guardian of Arashin and Felidar Retreat (or Cathar’s Crusade if you have it). Double up on cost reductions while giving yourself free value for just playing a land for a turn. Need a way to trigger Coven? Create a 2/2 Cat. Want to buff your squad? Give everything +1/+1 and Vigilance! On the whole, going hard on +1/+1 counters isn’t a terrible way to build, but it’s also not terribly strong either. One plan is to use it go wide, buffing up a bunch of medium creatures. But to get to 40 damage is going to mean that you need a lot of +1/+1 counters to drop on 2/2s and 4/4s, and you need to keep them on the board. Granted there are some creatures that give +1/+1 for every +1/+1 they get, and other similar effects. There are also counter doublers, like doubling season. So okay, you can generate a lot of counters, and there are some cards that just care about counters, like Tayam, Luminous Enigma. Tayam is in Abzan colors. Hm… hold that thought. Wild Beastmaster, Kessig Cagebreakers, Kyler, Sigardian Emissary, Angel of Glory's Rise, Sigarda's Vanguard, Biogenic UpgradeThis is potentially a pretty big card, grabbing a ton of lands. Elves ramp nicely into this, especially since the hierarchs exactly ability lasts until end of turn, and they have 0 power, you can pretty easily manipulate what powers you have between 0 power hierarchs and elves, and then “normal” mana dork elves that are 1/1. These kinds of Creatures give you a lot of flexibility when trying to put unique powers on the board. If you have four creatures, but they all have either two or four power, just cast one of these creatures with three as the value of X, and you’ve got a Coven. Creatures That Grow Themselves Lost Caverns of Ixalan Spoilers — November 2 | Remaining Rares, Full Jurassic World and Commander Reprints, The only card of significant value in Coven Counters is Bastion Protector, a reprint from Commander 2015. This Commander-specific card provides an extra layer of protection for your leader and curves out really nicely with Leinore, Autumn Sovereign since you can play the Protector on turn 3 and your commander on turn 4. The Verdict Kyler, Sigardan Emissary is the second-in-command in Coven Counters, and makes for a great Human-themed commander. As their power grows, so do of all the humans around them. The +1/+1 counter subtheme fits well with Humans, too, as many of them work with +1/+1 counters already, like Thalia’s Lieutenant. If built correctly, Kyler can be one of the strongest and most aggressive Humans commanders available.
