About this deal

Ahead of what is many people's favourite time of the year, we took a look at some of the eye-catching Christmas events due to take place around Derbyshire in 2023. From grottos and parades to Edwardian themes and classical music, the county has many activities set in store for families and friends alike. Christmas at Chatsworth Jon Burton:Jon joined the University in 2019 having worked as a Sound Engineer for 35 years, primarily in concert touring. Having worked with the likes of The Prodigy, Bring Me The Horizon and Biffy Clyro, Jon is now using his experience to teach a new generation of engineers on the degree Derby Season of Light (DSOL) will include workshops, community events and arts performances between October and December – coinciding with major cultural and religious festivals including Eid, Diwali, Bonfire night and Christmas – which all share the common theme of ‘light’. A number of cars from these units were subsequently transferred to departmental (non-revenue earning) use after withdrawal from normal service:

The event is produced by Derby LIVE, Derby City Council’s events arm, with the support of Derby Season of Light, media partner Smooth Radio and sponsor CityFibre, the UK’s largest independent Full Fibre platform and builder of Gigabit City Derby. It's just two weeks to go until Christmas officially comes to Derby with a parade and stage show ahead of the official switch-on of the festive lights and a firework finale. The whole spectacle starts around 3.30pm and continues until after 6pm on Saturday, November 12. Corporation Street will be closed top traffic throughout the event. Join us from 3.30 pm on Corporation Street, outside the Council House, for a stage show showcasing local talent alongside our headline act The Overtones. Enjoy the Derby Lantern Parade from 4pm, and more free entertainment before the light switch-on at 6pm along with the fireworks finale. The performers will be joined by school pupils, community groups and members of the public carrying traditional biodegradable Diwali and Chinese lanterns that they have made in workshops across the city organised by Surtal Arts as part of Derby Season of Light Festival. Father Christmas and members of the Derby pantomime cast Aladdin will also join the parade. He also painted many local scenes, including Dovedale by Moonlight, which captured the celebrated Derbyshire landscape at night under a full moon. The painting now hangs in the Allen Memorial Art Museum at Oberlin College, Ohio. Its companion piece, Dovedale by Sunlight (circa 1784–1785) captures the contrasting colours of the light of day.More than 100 stalls will be around the estate, boasting a series of arts, crafts savoury goods and sweet confectionary alike.

The performers will be joined by school pupils, community groups and members of the public donning traditional biodegradable Diwali and Chinese lanterns that they have made in workshops across the city organised by Surtal Arts as part of Derby Season of Light Festival. You’ll also have the chance to catch a preview of the main man himself, Father Christmas, who will feature in the parade alongside award-winning pantomime Dame, Morgan Brind, who will be taking a starring role this year in Aladdin at Derby Arena. Smooth Radio’s breakfast show presenter Gareth Evans will present the show, which will also be attended by a BSL interpreter from Theatre Sign from 4pm onwards. In the early 2000s, Blue sold 16 million albums and topped the charts with hits like All Rise and One Love.
