About this deal

We tend to find that the mark of a good pedal partially relies on our ability to operate it before opening the manual, and with the Circle Looper, we were able to not only navigate the features, but also record a multi part loop before reading a single instruction. The Circle is also 60g lighter too, & yet if you ask us, feels to be the better built of the two. Quite surprising, but considering the price, it doesn’t feel cheap. The left hand side is the looping stuff and the right hand side is all the rhythm section stuff where the drum machine lives. The drum machine, which features around 100 patterns from 10 different music styles, also sounds quite realistic with an organic feeling. They are perfect for practices or amateur concerts, but of course, they are not for professional use. I think the two button controls are worlds easier to use than a single button looper however I haven’t tried any of the Donner Single Button Looper’s. The added LED display is a nice touch and I would rather see this then the blinking light on most pedals.

As with the other donner pedals we’ve tested, there was no battery power, with a 9v DC input being the only way to run this unit. Note that there is no power supply included with this model. Preset Slots: With 40 preset slots at your disposal, you can save and recall your favorite loops and settings effortlessly. Also the drum parts are obnoxiously loud at first, until you figure out how to access the level parameter and the memories are populated with loops and drum settings from the factory so when you go to a new slot those drums will be deafening again. I may just go in and delete a whole bunch from the computer to avoid the rigmarole of undoing the horrible settings. There is a metronome or three in there (different time sigs) so the rather unsubtle drum parts can be avoided without losing out on the syncing between the rhythm and looper functions. This looper is pretty much ‘plug-in & play’. There’s no complex software to install or firmware that needs updating every time it’s used. As far as usability goes, it score full marks. A substantial metal build is something you get with both loopers. Although, we’d say the Donner feels the most sturdy of the two. #JustSaying It took me some.time to get used to the different function switches, but overall, I can say it’s intuitive, easy to use without the owner manual!

On the top of the unit is where you’ll find all of the controls. There are 2 dials, and 2 footswitches. The left dial controls the looper functionality, including volume, memory slot selection, and the fade out time. The pedal also supports SD cards which you can upgrade to have more space for recording in the stompbox. It can also be connected to a computer like the Donner for importing and exporting recorded files. It’s an excellent choice for both novice and experienced guitarists, offering a creative playground for looping and rhythmic exploration: with top-notch sound quality and studio compatibility, it’s a valuable addition to any guitarist’s arsenal. For those who prioritize true bypass functionality, the Donner Circle Looper’s power-off process may be a minor inconvenience. If seamless power-off is crucial for your setup, you may want to explore alternatives with this feature. Advanced Arrangement Features
