About this deal

A superb balance of ripe fruit, delicate acidity and elegant notes of wood aging. Full and fruity on the palate with a lingering finish. Fonseca has respect for the vineyard and the unique environment of the Douro Valley which expresses itself in the firm's leadership in the field of sustainable and organic viticulture. It was the first house to offer a port made entirely from organically produced grapes.

Perhaps more than any other port house, Fonseca has built a loyal community of port wine enthusiasts. These connoisseurs value its individuality and the inimitable character of its wines. These include connoisseurs, collectors, sommeliers and restaurateurs as well as those who simply enjoy drinking its wonderfully rich and complex ports. Fonseca Bin 27 pairs beautifully with desserts, dark chocolate and berry fruit. It all works splendidly with the full flavour and rich creaminess of cheeses such as Camembert or Vacherin Mont D’Or. Fonseca Bin No 27 was created over a century ago for family consumption, and only released commercially in 1972. Manoel Pedro Guimaraens who founded Fonseca in 1822, created this special port reserved for his family and kept in Bin No.27 of their private cellar.Bin 27 shares the heritage and style of the great Fonseca Vintage Ports, as well as much of their depth and character. However it is bottled when ready to drink and can be served by the glass directly from the bottle. Blended for consistency of character and quintessentially Fonseca in style, this reserve blend provides reliable and affordable value.

Anthony Dias Blue, Tasting Panel, USA, February 2018 – 91 points “A blend of select reserve Ports chosen for their full-bodied palates; dark ruby colour; smooth and dense with toasty notes and rich, ripe, and deep flavours.” This is enveloped in the rich succulent jammy flavours and velvety texture of the wines of Panascal and overlaid by the exotic heady scents of Santo António. First introduced in the 1950s and named after the warm wind which blows over the Mediterranean from North Africa, Siroco is a blend of classic white Port grape varieties grown on the cooler, higher vineyards of the Douro Valley. To achieve its crisp dry finish, the wine is allowed to ferment for longer than other styles of Port before it is fortified. Ageing in small oak vats gives Siroco its smoothness as well as its attractive ripe fruit flavours and delicate nuttiness. The wine benefits from being served between 16ºC to 18ºC. The particular qualities of this wine allow it to be enjoyed over an extended period of time once opened, without losing its freshness and vibrancy. Optimum drinking time after opening the bottle is two months.Bin 27 was an immediate success. Five years after its launch, it was already sold in almost 30 countries around the world, from Australia to Iceland. Bin 27 was supported by numerous promotional activities over the years, among them the sponsorship in 1977 of John Ridgway's yacht, the "Debenhams", in the round-the-world Whitbread race and the production in 1984 of the world's largest bottle of wine. This Bin 27 bottle contained 98 liters, or the equivalent of 132 normal bottles. It had a circumference of 1.5 meters at the base and almost 1 meter in height, and was sealed with a 13-centimeter stopper. Few port producers have maintained such consistency of quality and style from vintage to vintage. From the legendary 1840, Fonseca's first Vintage Port release, to the iconic 1868 and the extraordinary 1927, 1948, 1977 and 1994, all four of them 100-point wines, the house has produced a succession of highly acclaimed wines. Fonseca LBV is the perfect finish to any meal. Excellent with fully flavoured cheeses, especially blue cheeses such as Brie de Meaux or Roquefort. It is delicious with desserts made with chocolate or berry fruits.
