About this deal

Ironically, using extremely short headphone cables is seldom suggested as an audio upgrade opportunity. All I can say is that I’m a serial modifier of things, so now I’m into higher end audio, I am turning my focus to improvements. I have had a few experiences with aftermarket cables and headphones that in some cases make me a skeptic and then also a believer. Have you ever read an audio review that described improvements in ways such as “better micro-details”, “has no skin effect” or that the sound is “smoothly textured”? Much of the cable debate revolves around these sorts of tenuous descriptions of sound, which by their very nature, are extremely difficult to prove or disprove. We’ve covered what may not be real, so let’s move on to the facts. What’s inside headphone cables? Chapter 4: Anatomy of a Headphone Cable Cable anatomy image from Pro Sound Web The listener may not have discarded the Skeptic’s point of view, but believes current testing methodology is not enough to explain the audible differences So maybe that was the fault of the aftermarket cables and the fact the OEM cable was simply superior! Skeptic. superb conductivity for such a thin wire. material must be true 6n occ, high quality. soft and flexible, although less than (130) due to resistant and durable pvc sleeve.clean sound. copper version preserves lows better; spc version, mids and highs. in this case, i prefer sound with copper version (better, same level of best cables in the list), but i love purple color of sleeve in spc version (also available in orange and green). In my experience, if high-end cables make a difference, it is very, very slight. I likely don’t have the trained ears, or exotic enough equipment to be able to perceive significant sound changes due to cable replacement. Perhaps my biases just lead me to believe that. A cable’s performance takes time to optimize because of the way a dielectric behaves (the way the insulating material absorbs and releases energy) and changes in the presence of a charge. Cables will continue to improve in sound or picture quality over a period of several weeks. This is the same reason amplifiers, preamplifiers and CD players also require an adjustment period. The key difference between “adjusting” and “breaking-in” is that things don’t “un-break-in”, however, electrical components do “unadjust”. Several weeks of disuse will return a cable to nearly its original state.” Is it a coincidence that the tonal qualities of instruments are also linked to wires of the same color and finish? It certainly seems like there may be expectation bias at play. My go-to IEM on a daily basis is Vision Ears’ VE7. It is a great benchmarking tool with a highly resolving signature and I use it to evaluate gear. I’ll be testing the Lavricables Ultimate 2-pin upgrade cable with the VE7 & several others. The IEM cable costs about 220 USD. Here are the specifications of the 2-pin cable; If the replacement cable increases the listener’s pleasure, the cost to upgrade becomes far more justifiable. Just approach cable replacement as a tweak. Best case, it should provide improved aesthetics, durability and construction as well as a subtle sound improvement. All audio tweaks should be a small percentage of the cost of the major components of the stereo chain, where the most dramatic changes and improvements to the quality of sound will come from replacing the headphones themselves. Headphone cables are most commonly made of strands of very thin braided/twisted copper wires, as it is more flexible, better resists damage due to twisting/vibration, and has essentially the same conductivity as a single strand conductor. As I have mentioned earlier in this thread- "Most of the Lightning OTG cables, which have an output of 3.3V 100mA cannot fill the need for portable DACs. 5V 200mA should work well -However, I thought the "ddhifi" is 200mA so it should theoretically work. other kind of "degradation" is internal: attenuation (and may be others) due to resistance of the conductor. all the materials advances look for better conductivity, less resistance: fewer impurities (purity grade), more linear structure (single crystal, occ).. but the impact grade of these advances on signal degradation compared to the difference of price is still questionable, imo.
