About this deal

The Hakko and Weller are both rated at 70W. However, the temperature range of the Hakko is much wider. Most people won’t use the Weller near the low or high ends of its range let alone the expanded high and low temps of the Hakko. If you are looking for the best alternative tip options for the FX-888D station beside the genuine tip, consider using bevel and chisel models. With only two operation buttons of UP and ENTER in the center, operation is simple and easy. Even if you’re not familiar with operation of machines, you can operate it without difficulty. Heat up and temp stabilization are crazy fast, coming from cheap units this one surprised me when I first turned it on, was used to turning on the soldering iron and then in a few minutes could expect it to be stabilized. With the Hakko I turned it on and stood up expecting to have some time, and I wasn't 10 feet away by the time it hit temp and was almost stabilized. So very fast, which shouldn't be surprising if you have only been using the cheap units.

Heater output has been increased by 30% compared to that of the conventional models HAKKO 936/937. Also FX-888D delivers excellent thermal recovery by using T18 series tips for their terrific heat conductivity. This allows soldering at a lower set temperature and reducing the thermal impact on components as well as tip oxidation that can shorten tip life. The user-friendly LCD screen with 3 buttons makes it easy to read and use, while the tool-free replacement of the tips is a handy feature. The new Digital version has a display in either Fahrenheit or Centigrade (customer adjustable), so you can set the temperature as well as see the current tip temp.

It also has a low-temperature alarm. If for some reason it is below temperature, it will sound an alarm, and that’s to protect against any cold solder joints. But for those of you that have used the FX888, you know that its thermal recovery with 65 watts of power is rather impressive. Tech Features of Hakko FX-888D If you have to solder power SMD devices on multilayer boards, then I do not recommend it. You need an iron such as the ADS200 or JBC. For anything else with less power requirement, you will be well served. Read full review

An iron holder of the same color of a soldering station comes as a set. The highly functional iron holder not only improves ease of use, but also brings a sense of visual consistency to the work environment. This particular soldering iron can be used for stained glass. Just keep in mind that you should start soldering at the decreased temp range. Slowly increase the temperature range until you get the expected result.
