About this deal

A new expression called "Japanese Harmony", with no age statement, was introduced in 2015. The new blend was said to use the same malt and grain whiskies used in the first Hibiki blend, being a blend of at least 10 malt and grain whiskies from three distilleries, aged in five different cask types, with some elements aged up to approximately 20 years. [5] [8] As 2023 marks a momentous year for the House of Suntory, the founding House of Japanese whisky is thrilled to reveal the long-awaited centennial release of Hibiki 21-Year-Old and a limited-edition bottle design of Hibiki Japanese Harmony that honors the four seasons and is a nod to the past, present, and future. The two limited releases mark the latest centennial whisky offerings from the House of Suntory’s anniversary celebration, honoring a century since founder Shinjiro Torii established Japan’s very first malt whisky distillery in 1923.

Everything from the mash bill to the casks ensures sipping Hibiki is a unique experience and, the more you know about this whisky, the more you’ll appreciate drinking it. Suntory, Hibiki’s parent company, suggests pairing the whisky with nothing more than a splash of soda water and some large, clear ice cubes. My guess is Hibiki 21 will continue to be in high demand. But the crazy price increases will probably level out slightly. It’s not a bad investment, but there are better options in my opinion. The Hakushu (白州) malt portion of the Hibiki blend is savory, mildly peaty, and crisp. Hakushu malt is known for its apple-like flavor, herbal notes, and mineral finish.

The design of the label for the Hibiki 21 Year Old bottle features a gradual transition of colours, chosen to evoke the sunrise in Japan. A century ago, Shinjiro Torii began distilling whisky within an idyllic valley northeast of Osaka. The liquid he laid down there would eventually reach the bottle as Yamazaki, which today is one of the most sought-after spirits on Earth. The single malt is the crown jewel of Suntory, the Japanese brewing and distillery company that grew from there into a global powerhouse. Nevertheless, crafting a sensational single malt was never his ultimate goal, according to brand ambassadors. Torii’s idea of whisky perfection was instead rooted in the beauty of the blend: bringing grain and malt components together in exacting proportions. Which is why he’d be quite heartened to sip his company’s latest release, an exceptionally balanced, limited-edition Hibiki 21 Japanese blended whisky.
