About this deal

Even though prosecco is a good source of your daily fruit intake, grapes are high in natural sugars, which easily puts you over a daily limit of carbs. But after buying a large bottle of fresh orange juice from my local Whole Foods, I thought it was about time to test this cheap Costco prosecco and see how it would hold up. My Initial Thoughts The KS Prosecco has always been a favorite of mine and I like to have a few bottles on hand for company. While there is no vintage designation for the wine, the current release is of a similar quality to those I’ve tasted in the past.

Prosecco is comparable to other sparkling wines and champagne in that it comes in three varieties: Brut, Extra Dry, and Dry. One difference from Champagne is that Prosecco is made using the Charmat method where the secondary fermentation that creates all those delicious bubbles happens in large pressurized tanks, versus in each individual bottle. It's easy to see how this method can be much more economical than fermentation in each bottle. Does this necessarily make the wine better? That's up to the taster. The grapes are fermented in a Charmat tank, and the secondary fermentation process is completed in a pressurized vat. Is Kirkland’s Prosecco Good? What are the regulations about classifying a sparkling wine as a prosecco? Well, it must be made using at least 85% of grapes which are Glera. For example, Kirkland’s signature prosecco is a high-quality D.O.C.G product, meaning it is created from only the best grapes grown on the hillside in an Italian vineyard. It’s important to note that the Kirkland Prosecco is a DOCG wine. This highest grade classification can be awarded to a Prosecco due to its strict regulation and guarantee of quality. Costco sells several brands of prosecco, however the one to really watch out for is their Kirkland prosecco. Similar to other sparkling wine and champagne, prosecco comes in three varieties – Brut, Extra Dry and Dry.

Instead of a 100-point scale, we made the ranking more reader-friendly, grading each bottle “highly recommended,” “recommended” or “not recommended.”So what about the taste? Prosecco is a fruit-bomb. It can have notes of peach, apple, pear, melon, and cream, combined with intense floral aromas. Champagne tastes more of citrus, almond, and brioche.
