About this deal

The sharpness is average, the cuts are alright, but I found it difficult to get really close to the components, so there was still a lot of excess plastic I had to cut away. That’s probably because the blades are still rather large, which makes it hard to reach tight areas in a sprue. Still, the build quality is pretty decent, but for the price they’re asking, I would probably invest in a pair of single-blade nippers. Dual vs single-blade What I mean by this is that it’s hard to even find. Look at the Citadel Tools section on games Workshop.com. This is not listed. the only way you can find it is by specifically searching for “Knife” I’ve not used the existing Citadel Knife, but having seen the existing one I would be hard pressed to understand the price. Ergonomically it is no different than a basic cheap Xacto knife and it uses the same blades. But if you are of an appropriate age, you’ll soon replace that mouldline remover with a knife, if it’s the Citadel Knife, cool. That’s not a bad choice. Now I’ll go so far as to say these are a functional improvement over the last generation of citadel clippers. Both in use and the ergonomics. Whilst the last generation were the coolest-looking clippers around, they were uncomfortable for all but the people who had larger hands. For reference my glove size is Large and I found them a little too big. For the number of little things we need to cut, this frequently led to overextending fingers to the point they would mildly ache. And despite how cool they looked, this style also added to the weight.

For the last couple of years, there has been a cheaper version of this, If you collected Warhammer Conquest Mortal Realms or Warhammer Imperium partworks magazines, your first issue would come with a micro mould-line remover. this was basically the old citadel mould line remover with the handle removed – Thankfully garfy from Tale of Painters made a simple 3D render you could print to recreate the handle. Games Workshop has done well here, yada yada looks generic like the rest of the tools. but functionally, this one is really smart. The current citadel Mouldline Remover is low-key one of the best items Games Workshop makes. Yes, I know, you can use a hobby knife. However, the dedicated mouldline remover is easier, less likely to err and screw up your model, and is much safer. This is one of those tools you scoff at until you use and then wonder how you ever got on without it. An additional note, they also do not sell replacement blades. So for reference, you need a size-11 Model Blade. (not a scalpel blade they have a different profile and won’t fit. I would consider this a strict upgrade over my basic hobby knife and I’m happy to have it in the tool box. Parting Thoughts

The classic. A scalpel knife with a long, pointed blade to reach the tightest of spaces. There are various knife grips out there, for example from The Army Painter, get the one that you find the most ergonomic. For the blades, get the original ones from X-Acto as I found the quality and sharpness to be the best. This is true however the offset is very slight. By eye it seems to be ~1/3 to 1/4 of the offset of my Xuron clippers. Let’s start with the new mouldline remover tool. To be honest, I wasn’t a big fan of the old Citadel mouldline remover. I found the blade was just too large for anything other than tanks and large scenery pieces, and the (for safety reasons) rounded tip made it impossible to reach into tight spots. Comparison of the new and old Citadel Mouldline Remover If you are at all internet savvy you are probably in one of the many online social groups and know this already, our audience specifically, I hope would be savvy to most of these and would see many of the alternative options before investing in these. Also, if it’s a flat edge, it’s not a blade. hence the term “Single-Blade”. I’m sorry GW, but how can we expect to take this range seriously if the tool, it’s function and intention is not clearly defined? Citadel Tools: Mouldline Remover Review

Every so often Games Workshop releases a new batch of hobby tools. If you’ve ever hung around a Warhammer store you’ve probably seen these on the shelf. The new revamped line-up includes updates to the Super Fine Detail Sprue Cutters, a Mouldline Remover, a Knife, and a Drill.
